New photos of alleged iPhone 5S with dual LED flash surface

As the iPhone 5 nears the end of its 12-month life cycle, rumors regarding Apple’s next-generation handset are beginning to pick up. It’s believed that the phone, which is expected to be called the iPhone 5S, is already in production.

And when devices go into production, it becomes harder to control component leaks. That might explain how the folks who took these two photos got their hands on what appears to be a nearly complete (minus the display) iPhone 5S…

Here’s MacRumors:

“MacRumors has received several images that appear to show both the interior and rear shell of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5S. The device appears to carry the same redesigned logic board that appeared earlier this week, suggesting that this is indeed a new iPhone.”

The site then goes on to point out some interesting things in the above photo of the inside of the alleged iPhone 5S. For example, notice how the large chip isn’t labeled as an A6 or A7. It’s possible that this particular device is just a prototype.

They also note that the battery carries a more recent Apple part number of 616-0652 compared to the iPhone 5 battery, which has carried part numbers -0611 and -06113. And it has a higher capacity of 5.92Whr, compared to the 5′s 5.45 Whr.

And now for the back:

iphone_5s_rear

The first thing you’ll notice about this rear shell is that it looks almost exactly like the iPhone 5. And that’s fine, because nearly everything we’ve heard up to this point has suggested the next iPhone will look identical to its predecessor.

There is one major difference though—check out the larger, pill-shaped window for the LED flash next to the iSight camera. This too matches up with previous 5S reports we’ve seen, which all say the handset will sport a dual LED flash.

Not much else is known about the next-generation iPhone, though. Rumors of the handset have called for everything from an all-new A7 processor, to a built-in fingerprint sensor, and many think the device will come in several colors.

Whatever it is, you can bet Apple will be unveiling it this fall. With no new mobile products out this year yet, the company is expected to have another big holiday season with two new iPads, a new iPhone, and possibly a new budget handset.

Whatever iPhone Steve Jobs last had his hand in, I’m staying with it. I believe it is anything before the 5S.

    • MarcPhilippeB

so you stick to the iPhone 5 then.

    • Joyce Bearint

      That’s stupid

    • Raul Henriquez

      You’re an idiot

  • Archit

    U can say 24-month life cycle… Can’t see any “innovation” here…
I pray the screen comes with full-HD!

    • Sam Sproul

wait, non-esistant pixels aren’t good enough?

      • Archit

Yup, not for me.. N definetly not after using xperia z… -_-

      • MarcPhilippeB

haha seriously? the iPhone 5 screen has the most realistic color representation and you see no pixels. how can you improve that at all?
btw: in my opinion the xperia is a complete joke. they try to make it look better through placing it in movies. The OS is poorly designed, the swipes and transitions aren’t fluid… common.

      • mehrab

Ikr? I hate xperia but love ps4 and sony”s camcorders. Video looks weird on the z and eh veiwing angles are wayyyy off

    • Christopher Ablaza

This may be a stupid question but here goes, what defines an HD Display? I always thought it was pixel density… everyone complaining about a retina display not being HD is very confusing to me.

      • CaffeinePizza

        1280 x 1080 pixel I believe.

      • felixtaf

        1280*720 is HD 720P, 1920*1080 is full HD 1080P…

      • CaffeinePizza

derp i said it backwards. thx

      • felixtaf

en.wikipedia dot org/wiki/File:Vector_Video_Standards2 dot svg. This picture explains about all display standards. Retina display is based on pixels per inch of display. In iPhone 4, the display is 960*640, in iPhone 5 its 1136*640. By display standards, 1280*720 is HD and 1920*1080 is full HD…

      • blastingbigairs

It really doesn’t matter what the exact calculations are for true HD, it’s what my eyes see when I look at the screen that makes my final decision for me. I still have yet to see a better display than the Retina display on my iPhone 5 and iPad 3. My HTC Evo LTE comes damn close, but Samsung displays always seem too blue and grainy. Retina is still king no matter what the pixels.

  • http://djterm.de/ Robo Term

nearly exactly like the 5. also the scuffs.

  • Pranav Shankar

Let’s not get our hopes high.
Apples gonna release the iPhone 5s with a better camera and a better processor and some software exclusive to the 5s
All other features that are rumored like finger print readers and what not will be released in 2014. period.

    • mehrab

Aaaaaaaaa. Thats all that apple needs to do?

      • Pranav Shankar

all i’m saying is we need to keep our expectations in check…i for one, have been disappointed time and again after every keynote:P

      • mehrab

The iphone 5 atm has the best build is the fastest and has the best or one of the best smartphone cameras. So what will the iohone 5s bring? Pure ios 7 hardware better camera and an awesome features. What more wud you need?

      • millwork help

        Something new…

      • mehrab

YeH siri was something “new” this time there”ll be something of that sort of new.

      • genXhippie

An Xanon, led light, to eliminate motion blur in photos.

  • Alex

If Apple gonna be like that they gonna fall 1: ios7 looks bad nothing really changed 2: we didnt see a lot of changing in iPhone 5 now the 5s look no diffrenet !!! I mean come on we need something new and intersting like when iPhone 4 come out it was big change

    • Boss

iOS7 looks Childish and Girly will wait for Jailbreak

      • Chris Longden

        Set a manly wallpaper then.

      • Boss

        Rather have a naked bitch

    Why Android devices suck

    1.lag
    2. not all apps are compatible with all Android devices.
    3. most Android phones have pointless and stupid features.
    4. ugly UI
    5. The software you get with the phone you usually stay with. Its very hard to update the software of a Android phone.

    6. most Android phones are made out of cheap hard plastic which makes it a #$%$ phone

Example: dragging a video from the internet to the home screen is a perfect example of a pointless and stupid feature

    • Thijs ♔.

      +1

    • Luke Mulholland

Not all apps are compatible with all idevices…

      • sl0wCydia

ya maybe the very first iPhone the Samsung Galaxy s4 just came out and there are already a bunch off apps that dont work with it

      • Qiren_94

Well, from my personal experience. All apps are still compatible with my 4 year old iPhone 3GS, and it runs games better than my 2 year old Galaxy S2…

      • Yash Gorana

“Not all apps are compatible with all idevices…” … because of hardware limitations and developers choice on which OS he wants his app to run.

      • https://twitter.com/MrElectrifyer MrElectrifyer

Yeah, and ain’t that the same reason Android apps aren’t compatible with all Android devices….

    • Qiren_94

I actually like Android more than iOS. But the apps compatibility is what made me switched over to iOS. Android certainly have more features and can do much more amazing things that iOS can’t even dream of. But in the end of the day, it’s still the apps, stability, and performance that matters.

      • sl0wCydia

I personally think a lot of the features in Android devices are stupid and pointless. I mean holding down the homescreen wallpaper to choose different wallpaper. That is just a dumb pointless and stupid feature.

      • Arnaud Nelissen

        Agreed.

      • domi1kenobi

it’s what you do in Windows to change the wallpaper.
I for one find it very practical in Android.
IOS7 is just trying to catch up with Android, WP8 and BBRY

      • sl0wCydia

        say that to Apple sales……

      • domi1kenobi

You mean the Apple sales that are only a fraction of Android sales right?

      • Kevin Schrader

        More like the opposite :D

      • domi1kenobi

Seems you live in another, yet smaller world.

      • http://klikkit.co.uk/ Jake – Klikkit

I agree with you on the most part, but please elaborate on these ‘amazing things’ that iOS can’t even dream of.

I honestly can’t think of an amazing Android feature to make it stand out

      • Qiren_94

For me, it’s those “extremely techie” stuff like overclocking and shits like that.
I use to like those stuff a lot, but now I don’t have the time or even the mood (i got bored of it) to do all those crap. That’s why changed to iOS, simple, nice and speedy.

      • http://klikkit.co.uk/ Jake – Klikkit

overclocking isn’t something I’d name as ‘amazing’, and I don’t really see the ‘other shits like that’ being so amazing if you can’t list them

      • https://twitter.com/MrElectrifyer MrElectrifyer

Amazing stuff you find in Cydia is all possible with official Android…so it’s only the official iPhone that could only dream of such features.

      • sl0wCydia

Are you kidding? The features in Cydia are way better. They even look better.

      • https://twitter.com/MrElectrifyer MrElectrifyer

Yet another biased fantard comment…it’s all a matter of opinion, and you’re entitled to yours.

      • sl0wCydia

You say that when you dont even know me.

      • https://twitter.com/MrElectrifyer MrElectrifyer

Don’t need to, nor care to, know you just to tell that your comment is biased like most fanboy’s…

      • sl0wCydia

I do like Apple products yes. I only have one Apple product. So i am not a fanboy. If you dont like what I’m saying Android fanboy leave the Apple article.

      • https://twitter.com/MrElectrifyer MrElectrifyer

Who gives a f**k how many Apple devices you own? Your comments alone imply you’re yet another biased apple fanboy.

Just ’cause my comment is unbiased, it implies I use Android? What a f**king brilliant logic you fantards have…

      • sl0wCydia

You got upset with my comment that says why Android devices suck. So yes you are a fanboy. You insult me cause you know I’m right about why Android devices suck.

      • https://twitter.com/MrElectrifyer MrElectrifyer

I know I can’t ever correct a fantard’s mind through the internet, so I never get upset when they ignoramusly mislead others. I just reply to their comment to attempt preventing others from getting misleaded.

You clearly don’t know much about the latest android devices, ’cause your comment about them is mostly fantard BS. Read and comprehend my reply to that comment, if you have the guts to see how ignoramus your comment is…

      • sl0wCydia

I have nothing to say to your previous comment cause the only thing you are doing is rambling

      • sl0wCydia

If I’m a Apple fanboy. Why is it that i know so much about Android products?

      • sl0wCydia

I never dream of having pointless and stupid features.

      • Zeljko Nikolic

deactivate all in android.widgets, flash, beam and so on and there you go….an iphone with quadcore in s 4.

      • mehrab

Yeah well ios has those kinda features now full preveiw multitasking even better then android bcos its a full preveiw on android you get to see 40% of that app in the preveiw. Faster more intelligent multitasking. Control centre way better then Swiping with two fingers or having your “notification centre clogged with quick toggles” better safari. Airdrop. Redesign. Better faster then google now siri. Simple awesome photos app. There are more but yeah. More freatures does not result in a better expirience its the uselfull ones that actually matter

    • mehrab

Another useless feature. Tapping the backs kf phones to exchange files

      • n0ahcruz3

What if you are on a top of a mountain with friends and you happen to capture this amazing photo and you want to share it with your friends and there is no 3g/lte or wifi or any form of internet how are you able to share the photo with them? Lets say they are also using iphones.

      • Qiren_94

Haven’t you heard of Facebook? Or maybe Email?
Seriously, I have been using smartphones for the past 5 years (I had all sorts, with NFC, bluetooth etc.), and had been on trips and vacation with friends and family countless of times and has never came across a moment where people want me to send them the photos I take right away. They usually just say “hey, remember to upload the photos to Facebook when you get back home” or “Hey, could you send me that [specific photo] to my email when you have the time?”

      • n0ahcruz3

FB ? NFC? I said no internet no 3G no wifi? And you’re on top of a mountain? And want to share it on the spot. NFC? Iphone doest have NFC.

      • mehrab

Airdrop. Google it. Its in ios 7. One of my friends were tapping their androids to exchange photos and it fell opfrom his hand lol. Other alternatives wud be thrid party apps/jailbreak apps or tweaks

      • n0ahcruz3

Does Airdrop require internet connection like wifi/3G/lte? If not then its better than tapping phones.

      • mehrab

        Its wifi/bluetooth

      • n0ahcruz3

Cool finally, iphone bluetooth became useful aside from bluetooth boombox and bluetooth headphones. Iphone’s bluetooth is so useless. With airdrop i guess this changes everything lol

      • David Villamizar

I thought it was just wifi :O Since, you know, the 4s can’t use it because of the lack of double band wifi.

    • millwork help

Every single one of those is solved by getting a nexus…

      • felixtaf

Agree, but android market share of nexus phones will be 10-20% (I assume). And Google is not promoting nexus like other manufacturers. Y? they dont have money? They have, but they wanted to go along with them. Thats y we are seeing HTC One and S4 Google edition phones. 300$ nexus phone is a killer deal… How many units sold? Its not made available worldwide and not promoted either…

      • millwork help

In using all these Google editions and old nexus phones I’d say they would still struggle for 10% of the market share

      • David Villamizar

It’s not listed above, but I’d say quality on iOS apps is way better than quality on Android apps. A result of fragmentation as well, but it’s something you really feel after switching to Android.

    • Dominik Odobašić

People STILL use the lag argument? Not even my shitty cheap plastic stock Android carrier-branded ZTE device (Did I mention shitty?) does not freaking lag! Will you stop using that crap as an argument? Thanks…

Pointless and stupid features? I’d take more features over lack of features any day. Example. What if I want to listen to a music video while scrolling through Facebook or something else, like I’m doing right now? And since when are paralax wallpapers a useful feature?

Ugly? You mean modern and flat, just like iOS 7?

And since the hell when does plastic make a device better or worse? Where were you when the plastic 3G and 3GS were selling like hot cakes? Why are you such a colossal hypocrite?

    • https://twitter.com/MrElectrifyer MrElectrifyer

      1. Sounds like you still talking about ancient Android devices, so was the 3G and the 2G

      2. Neither are all AppStore apps compatible with all iOS devices, an example out of many is the latest version of TomTom.

      3. Stupid to you cause you’re too dumb to utilize it. I could already utilize the dragging of video from the internet to the home screen to keep a local YouTube Play-Later list…

      4. Would agree with that until fugly iOS 7 drops

      5. Mostly agree with that, though a rooting/custom ROM tool is usually available via a google search. Official ROMs are just filled with crapware.

      6. So was the iPhone 3G n 3GS, funny enough, none of you sheeples complained about it back then…

  • http://klikkit.co.uk/ Jake – Klikkit

Am I the only one that thinks this is just a normal flash but blurred?

Note how there appear to be two microphones next to it due to the shaking

    • BoardDWorld

Then the lens must have some wicked tech!

…or it’s just oval and appears round when shook.

  • Pepeloso

    That Looks Photo Shopped…

  • rasengan720 .

i have a feeling that the iphone 5s will have a poor battery life compared to the iphone 5 cause that’s how it happened when the iphone 4s came out after the iphone 4 :P

  • Frozen Bee .GFKS

well…considered iPhone 5 was actually just iPhone 4SS(no inovation here), Apple should really come with something more than “a bit upgraded” iPhone 5S, or stocks will fall into the hell this time…

    • CaffeinePizza

Depends. I know wayyy too many people who will throw money to get the latest iPhone and don’t ever know what’s in it or new features. I’ll be know about the next iPhone 3 months ahead and they’ll come to me 3 months later, “Hey! Hear ’bout next iPhone?” Makes me slam my head into a wall.

    • Rowan09

With that logic the Lumia 920 is just an S version of the 820 and the Note2 & S4 are both S versions of the S3. People only get on Apple when every company does the same thing, all Apple does is let its customers know every year they are doing internal upgrades and everyone other year a new redesigned phone comes out.

      • Frozen Bee .GFKS

Actually, S4 is just S model of S3…this “half models” thing worked with iP 3 and 4, but its time to make some bigger progress, especially since jump between 4S and 5 was really small…

      • Rowan09

It wasn’t really small, it’s how technology always advance. We moved from 3.5 inch screen to 4″ and internally everything changed as well along with a new design. I’m not sure what more could have happened from the 4S to the 5. Not sure if you remember the Sega Dreamcast. It had all the futuristic features like online gaming, play your saves games from the memory card, etc and it flopped. People just didn’t get it and besides parts being too expensive to make great leaps forward, it just doesn’t make any sense. I have a quad core Note 2 with the 5 and my 5 smokes the Note 2.

      • Frozen Bee .GFKS

you’re mostly right sir, but since Apple should be biggest innovator in design and technology of mobile phones, they probably have tons of great killing features(like that fingerprint shiat) they can implement into new models…other thing to discuss is, if they’re saving them for later or what..

  • felixtaf

Model number looks different to me… iPhone 5 is A1428 or A1429. This one looks different. I think its not fake…

  • Drew Hubbard

Never ever get an s ;)

    • Gorgonphone

yup… i had 3Gs and 4S only cause jalbreaks came fast for them and i got great deals on a used 4S BUT the 5S will not see a jailbreak for a long time and my 5 is perfect as is so i will skip

  • Philipp Steigler

    This photo is fake..
Why would you need two flashes?

And why are you angry about the same design at the 5S?
It’s called 5S and not 6 because of a good reason: S = Speed, and no new changes at the design..

    • Gorgonphone

true but the 5 is already super fast … speed is no longer a concern and there is not much more we can do on the tiny iphone5 screen that would need more power.. its time to start skipping S models

      • Philipp Steigler

        Exactly!
But I think Apple is going to release the 5S with some little changes..
I don’t know what they’re doing right now but they should spent more time on iOS 7 and the iPhone 6 :)

      • Rowan09

You can’t skip S models no company skips S models they just give it a new name. S3 & Note 2-S4, HTC One X-HTC One. Apple cannot skip the S model and make a totally different redesign due to part expensive today will be cheap later, new wireless technology maturity, etc. With contracts in the US some people only get S models due to upgrade options so they shouldn’t and will not get rid off S models. In regards to this screen thing how big is big enough? The HTC Evo started this trend and Samsung is taking it too far. Went from 5″ Note to 5.5″ Note 2 and now the Mega is going to be 6.3″. Why not just get a 7″ Nexus? I agree I would like to see a 4.5-”4.7″ screen at most on my iPhone, but that’s just my opinion

  • http://twitter.com/jmarsh5 Justin Marshall

Actually looks to me like some motion blur on the lens as opposed to dual LED. Maybe some clever photoshopping. This isn’t to say that the next iphone won’t have dual LED but this photo isn’t super conclusive.

  • genXhippie

Forget these half-ass l.e.d light, give us an Xanon FLASH already. So blur caused by slight moment(s) is no longer an issue in the photographs taken on an iPhone.

    • felixtaf

Then you need to buy a Lumia or S4 zoom… We need a phone with camera, not a camera with phone…

      • genXhippie

That’s silly to say, one must buy another phone. If Apple is truly all about quality then we should be happy to provide an Xenon, since it is technically possible.

      • felixtaf

If something isnt available or not gonna happen in near future, then u must buy another phone… Incorporating a xenon flash is technically possible, but they have to have bigger battery and do interior resign to accompany it. (which they arent going to do soon)

      • genXhippie

Well the iP5 needs a bigger battery as it is,sadly. As far as design is concern, I would rather sacrifice it a bit, in turn for a quality feature. By the way, Apple also is known to brag about its great iPhone camera. Yet, low light photos are prone/subject to motion blur due to the absence of an Xenon.

  • Gorgonphone

pic quality is tooo low i cannot conclude anything at all

    • felixtaf

Thats wat they want… These days even a 100$ phone can take pics better than this!

  • n0ahcruz3

Im currently using 4S i was seriously considering S4 but since ios7, i decided not to and stick to ios. But i’ll skip 5/5S because i dont like the design of the 5 specially the black & slate. My 4S is still in mint condition and fast like brand new :)

  • Tito

    I don’t think is a dual LED.

  • Zeljko Nikolic

i hate it.the design is stupid.and no customization without jailbreak….the iphone is more for old people.

  • Tom

I agree android really sucks my galaxy s2 wont even charge or charges slow battery drains real fast cant compare to iphone 3gs 3gs lasts at least a full day charges fast i guess android is a cheap junk

    • Piyush

same here , very slow charging , gone to xda forum people say its normal or do flash , change charger , change kernal what worst is usb charging is verrrry veryyyyy slow.

  • Rudy

Movie box and an apple tv is a good reason alone to own an IOS device . Airplay is so underated !!!

  • O Al Marar

Photo taken with vibration and that why you see dual flash

    • GaugePrower

Exactly, glad im not the only one who noticed I just didnt see this comment before I posted

  • Mikey

A bigger screen & zenon flash would make it perfect.

  • GaugePrower

um ok this photograph doesnt look realistic to me… note the blur due to the motion/shaky hand of the person who took the photo… its vertical. this actually looks like the same flash but if you shook the phone vertically while taking the picture without the flash on… making the appearance of it being doubled. see the camera lens? it also has a vertical smudge blur to it just not as intense. to understand what i mean, take a can or similarly sized object that has a logo or writing on it and take a photo of it in low light and let the camera shake a little bit, youll notice the logo will have doubling/ghosting. thats what the pill shaped flash in this photo looks like. Anyone else think im right or is it just me?

    • GaugePrower

Confirmed my suspicion… look at the microphone hole… this isnt a new flash, this is just a shaky hand photograph that is making the flash led look elongated… this photo of a new flash is now debunk. I’m going to try to replicate this photo with an iphone 5
