Size comparison (Galaxy S4 vs iPhone 5, Martin Hajek 003)

Listening to much of the tech press, you might get the impression Samsung’s new Galaxy S4 would further erode Apple’s share of the smartphone market. One Wall Street firm ended the week on a contrary note, telling investors iPhone sales in North America “remain resilient” and Samsung’s Galaxy S4 is only selling slightly better than its predecessor.

The analyst firm Detwiler Fenton expects Apple will sell a cool thirty million iPhones during the June quarter amid expectation the nine-month-old handset would lose market share to its South Korean rival…

Barron’s has a quote attributed to Gerber:

Our latest checks continue to indicate North American iPhone sales remain resilient, despite the high profile device launches from Samsung Electronics and HTC.

We believe [quarter-to-date] share at Verizon Wireless is only off a couple percentage points sequentially and that the iPhone 5 continues to garner a larger percentage of iPhone share.

The analyst also expects the iPhone’s share at AT&T and Sprint “has dropped slightly more than” Verizon due to the Galaxy S4.

Apparently, those greedy U.S. carriers had expected Apple to lose more market share in the June quarter, but were surprised learning that thus far Samsung’s S4 is up only 15 percent over G3 sales in North America.

He also predicts T-Mobile will sell around a million iPhones during the June period and tells investors North American carriers over-estimated the impact the Galaxy S4 would have on iPhone demand.

Due to the power of the Apple brand and the iPhone’s resilience to competition, Apple has been able to maintain most of its U.S. share, the report has it.

Which is a good thing knowing Apple won’t launch a successor to the iPhone 5 until fall.

People in the US only like stuff that are made by Americans like Apple, Xbox , KFC 😉 ect.. ain’t nobody what that cheap asian plastic crap

    • Biken Dangol

That’s not true. Although These product are design in USA or EU but Dude your argument is illogical, since Apple’s product and Xbox is made in asian country.

      • Jason M

Bottom line- Because of apple lot of jobs have been created in US- be it apps related, stores related, glass, processor related, sales related and lot more. Apple has changed the industry and Americans should be proud of it. Apple also provides great quality products and no one can beat it!

Regarding Made In America iphone- Many won’t buy no matter its American made because people do not have $1200 (without contract) to buy and upgrade phones. Fandroids just want to win the argument by bashing apple but if they were to given choice as what gift they need when I am willing to pay for it- They will select Macs, ipads 128GB, iphones lol Be real!

      • Boss

I’ve got a iMac that’s made in USA I’m sure the new 2013 line gets made in Texas or somewhere I heard

    • Dao Sasone

Its not wats its made of. Its wat it can do.

      • Gorgonphone

        its both

    • GuyBey0ndC00L

That’s a funny you say people in the US only buy American products. But you FAIL (BIGTIME) to realize its because of these American products Phones specially than cause companies outside of US to step there game up and they have. Your comment holds no weight simply because the Galaxy S3 sold so well and most people are happy not to upgrade to the S4. the S4 is more like and iPhone 4 to 4S upgrade. It’s good but if I have a S3 I would not buy a S4 either.

      • quitcherbichinn

and that’s where samsung and every other android phone fails…people won’t upgrade from generation to generation as they are “kinda” the same whereas Apple customers…especially fanboys as we are called…we will buy each new generation as they are still entirely new devices. when the speed and memory and storage and everything in the phone is new it doesn’t much matter if the shell of it is the same or similar. this is why Apple sold MILLIONS of 3gs and MILLIONS of 4s and will sell MILLIONS of 5s phones. this is something samsung wishes they could do…sell a new model yearly to every owner of the previous year’s product.

      • GuyBey0ndC00L

I agree 100% on what you say. Whats also true is the iPhone hold value. People wanted a new iPhone everything time a new one came out. The value was so great you could easily sale your old iPhone and that either 1# pay fully for a new one or 2# help you pay less money for a new one. Keep you up to date Samsung Galaxy S3 is now offering that same value and most people will do the same. What I’m seeing now at least around were a live are people happy with the hardware and don’t care for the upgrade. But there bored has hell with the software. Android and Google has really step there game up on the software (hardware too) side of thing. Apple iOS is still great and works flawless but its boring. Jailbreak helps a little but not much. I want an iPhone with a reasonable Bigger Screen and fresh software to go with it.

      • quitcherbichinn

a freshening of the software would be fine but i don’t want huge changes to it or it to be googlefied or for it to, in any way, mimic windows phone. the whole “flat” rumor going around about iOS7 makes me nervous, though forming an opinion without seeing the product would be foolish. i’ve used all the versions of android and it still feels laggy and crashy to me. the best comparison i can really find is comparing android to iOS is like comparing windows and OSX. i used to be anti-apple, would never consider an apple product..until i got the first iPhone..though i was still anti-mac….until 2010 when i needed a new laptop and i played around with a MBP…it took a week or so to acclimate but once i did i wondered why i didn’t make that change sooner..i’ll never go back to windows. so anyway…OSX just works for me…it doesn’t freeze and crash and lag and everything is just compatible whereas the 14 years i spent with windows was a nightmare of bsod, freezes, lags…devices never communicating with one another..just an all around headache. the constant defragging and virus scans and spyware scans and slowdowns crap. that’s what android is like to me. the graphics in the apps are even subpar to iOS versions which is what i find going between OSX and windows. in the end it comes down to preference and experience and my experience with android hasn’t been enjoyable and my preference is iOS. there are a few os aspects i’d like to see Apple incorporate though. as far as the jumbo screen…i have an iPad mini for that. the taller screen is already annoying enough as i can’t use it as easily or comfortably with one hand as i could with the iPhone 4.

      • GuyBey0ndC00L

I’m a tech guy first, I still luv windows used it for over 25 years. With that said, Windows lately specially Windows 8 is been a nightmare. I bought a beautiful Samsung laptop with Windows 8 cause my desktop of only a year crapped out. I was ok with it at first, I downloaded drivers, protections of all kinds, and even a tweak that boot you straight to desktop with the start button back. Metro for me was useless and ugly. 20 days later the problems starting coming in and all I did with the laptop was web browsing, emails, Media things thats all. The laptop was my Media Hub nothing more, but it had problems. I returned it and got my first MacBook Pro, I took out the 4gb and upgraded to 8. Some where down the line I’ll put 16gb and change the HDD to an SSD. I my bought MBP still in December 2012 and haven’t had not one problem. It never slows down and lags up. I’ll never use Windows again except for gaming. I own every iPhone since 3G and now I’m on iPhone 5. I sold each old iPhone to pay for the new one. It was first is about the hardware, I wanted the iPhone 5 badly because of the LTE speed. Than got my MBP in December 2012. Now its all about the software. SO between my iPhone 5 and Macbook Pro software and hardware wise every is smooth across the board. The bonus of Apple keeping things simple and connected works flawlessly. Went through 5 PC’s in 6 years. Apple products are HIGH PRICE, but if you got the money buy it you will not be disappointed and save money years from now. I hope iOS7 does fresh things up a bit.

      • quitcherbichinn

so your experience has been pretty much the same as mine. sounds like we both woke up from the windows coma and jumped ship at the right time. your experience proves what i say about windows…it is complete and utter garbage.

      • GuyBey0ndC00L

Well yes and no you need windows for gaming other than that its been pretty bad lately.

      • quitcherbichinn

not a video game fan so i’m good without windows. =)

    Why Android devices suck

    1.lag
    2. not all apps are compatible with all Android devices.
    3. most Android phones have pointless and stupid features.
    4. ugly UI
    5. The software you get with the phone you usually stay with. Its very hard to update the software of a Android phone.

    6. most Android phones are made out of cheap hard plastic which makes it a #$%$ phone

Example: dragging a video from the internet to the home screen is a perfect example of a pointless and stupid feature

    • Gorgonphone

^^^the best post ever on IDB

    • JamesR624

Could we PLEASE get the goddamn trolls outof iDB?!

And can we please stop with the pathetic Apple validation articles that are not news at all and only serve to bring out the trolls like this.

      • Gorgonphone

can you please stop crying all over IDB your tears will short out the damn servers and we will all suffer…

      • Cameron Chao

i dont see how this is trolling.

    • batongxue

Chill out. According to your list, it seems to me the HTC ONE is the perfect one instead of being one of your “most Android phones” that suck.
It is super fast and has no lag. It is made of one single block of solid aluminum instead of cheap plastic like Shamesung and the it is gorgeous and absolutely outshines the iPhone 5. Its Sense 5 UI is fresh and beautiful. Its features like ZOE, BoomSound, IR blaster and OIS, to name a few, are absolutely practical. And I don’t think It would be any hard to get software update for the ONE. App compatibility still has some space for improvement, but that is Google’s thing.

Stop being one-sided, because there are actually some other nice phones out there besides the iPhone 5. You know which one I am talking about, of course not Shamesung’s products lol.
      Thanks for your list though.

      • mehrab

okay the htc one cannot beat the iphone 5’s design software performance and camera why software cos its awesome basic smooth fast has some nice usefull features simple to use ios 7 will be on it soon which will be better if you still dont like ios 6 jailbreak then and ah the appstore! best app expirience ever. the camera on it is just better overall except in some low light conditions. okay design its polised brushed aluminium and has diamond cut chamfered edges with a crystal lens cover and also htc one copied iphone 5’s design vs a slab of aluminum -_- but the htc one is beaity too. htc one has lag please it just does its lower then the iphone 5 on all speeds tests (go to youtube and see yourself) other then that the screen on the htc one and the iphone 5 are amazeballs in their own way but on most apps on the htc one the menu bar takes up some space which sucks okay the end

Some of those are generalisations about Android. Not all of the devices are bad.

      • Gorgonphone

        lol….

      • Cameron Chao

Actually its true on most parts, yes some Android phones arent plastic and ugly UI like the HTC One, but they do get the other 4 problems.

      • quitcherbichinn

given slowcydia posted 4 hours ago and gorgonphone posted 4 hours ago…i’m going with gorgon copied slow.

    • Cameron Chao

who copied who on this? you or sl0wCydia

They both probably just copied and pasted from someone else.

I love everything my RAZR Maxx HD can do while my wife’s iPhone 5 is charging. 40 hours without a charge, 6 hours of that being screen on time and still had 30% battery left.
I do love my ipad though.

  • William Melendez

I disagree . I have an iPhone 5 and a GS4 and both devices are great phones. I don’t know why a lot of people hate on Android.

    • Dao Sasone

I jus got my gs4. I had a 4s n my wife has da 5. I prefer gs4 over da 5 cuz of its features. Luv da xpandable storage n its multitasking ability

    • Gorgonphone

cause it suuuucks… same reason we hate on stomach flu..it suuuucks too

  • ed scott

have to say, owning both – screen real estate is incredible, and s4 features are actually pretty useful, and you can show them off – tv remote is idea, and the features will be developed. having said that, i love the iphone 5 build, and it looks gorgeous, but finding it hard to miss my iphone right now!

  • Rodney Coleman

I had the htc one and the s4.. Where am I at now?? Back on iPhone

  • Sujan Tuladhar

After trying android for 2 days, I felt like switching my browser from chrome to Internet Explorer… iPhone forever…

  • n0ahcruz3

Stock Android S4 for me.. cant wait to get rid of my 4S. I’ll go back to iPhone when they increase the size to 4.5 or above.
