Dots 1.0 for iOS (teaser 001)

Dots, a simple iPhone game about connecting, launched a week ago on the App Store as a free iPhone download.

Seven days later, Dots was downloaded more than a million times, has become the #1 app in eight countries and is a top 5 app in fifteen other countries. Basically a digital take on Connect the Dots, it sports clean UI, a delightful use of sound and addictive mechanics.

Make no mistake about it, Dots is guaranteed to keep fans of puzzlers glued to their iPhone…

The game was conceived and developed by Paul Murphy and Patrick Moberg, a hacker-in-residence at tech incubator Betaworks.

It’s interesting that even though Moberg had never coded nor designed a game before, he was able to write Dots from scratch in just three months.

In a blog post published Wednesday, Moberg and Murphy boasted about more than 25 million Dots games played in under a week.

Dots is available free for your iPhone and iPod touch devices. The game is compatible with the iPhone 3GS and newer, the third-generation iPod touch and later, requires iOS 5 or later and is optimized for the iPhone 5’s taller screen.

You can buy additional dots in the 5,000/15,000/50,000 increments for $0.99/$1.99/$4.99, but don’t worry – the game is totally enjoyable without in-app purchases.

They’re working on a content update that will include the native iPad interface, colorblind mode and repetitive dots of the same color falling down.

Trust me when I say Dots is a highly addictive game that will pretty much ruin your productivity for the day.
