Wake up to the date, temperature and more with Wake Info

What’s the first thing you do when you hear your alarm clock go off in the morning? If you’re like me, then after hitting the snooze button a couple of times, you look at your phone to see what time it is and if you missed any messages overnight.

But wouldn’t it be nice if you could get this kind of information without having to look at your phone? That way you could skip that part of your morning routine and go right to stretching, or whatever else you do. Well you can, with Wake Info…

Wake Info is a jailbreak tweak that enables your iPhone to read out various messages to you after you have either dismissed or snoozed an alarm clock. These messages can give you the date and other data, or say something simple like: “Wake up Cody.”

Once downloaded, the tweak’s options can be configured from your Settings app. There’s a toggle to enable Wake Info, show notification banners, show an ‘active alarm’ badge on the Clock app, and then of course a place to customize your wake messages.

You can set up to 3 messages to play after you either Dismiss an alarm, or Snooze it, with the option of including: the temperature, your device’s battery status, calendar events, the date and time, and the number of your unread texts, emails and missed calls.

The tweak uses the built-in text-to-speech function, so the spoken messages sound great. And you can also set it to open up a custom URL in Safari alongside the messages. So if you have a favorite site you visit every morning—like iDB—this really comes in handy.

I think Wake Info would be much more useful, though, if it could actually read your missed messages to you, or better yet things like @mentions in Twitter. But other than that, I don’t have any complaints. It works with all iOS 5+ devices, and Siri’s not required.

If you’d like to check it out, you can find it in Cydia, in the BigBoss repo, for free.
