Infinity Blade is arguably one of the most popular gaming franchises on iOS (aside from Angry Birds and maybe Real Racing). First released in 2010 by Chair Entertainment and Epic Games, the action role player pulled in some $1.6 million in its first four days.

The game was popular enough to spawn at least one sequel, Infinity Blade 2, and possibly a third. Still don’t get what all of the hype is about? Well now’s your chance to investigate, because the title that started it all was just discounted to $0 for a limited time…

As noted by MacRumors, Apple has made Infinity Blade its app of the week, meaning it will be available for free for the next 7 days. Yes, it’s the original game, and not the updated Infinity Blade 2. But you’d be hard-pressed to find a better action game for nothing.

Being the first iOS game to utilize the Unreal Engine 3, Infinity Blade has been described as a ‘console-level’ game. Its sharp graphics and  equally sharp gameplay eventually led it to several top honors including ‘Game of the Year’ and a 2011 Apple Design Award.

“Spectacular 3D characters and environments powered by the award-winning Unreal Engine 3 bring to life the story of a lone knight’s pursuit to save civilization.”

If for some reason you haven’t already given the game a shot, you can find Infinity Blades in the App Store. And if you’ve already played it, spread the word. High end games like this often get discounted to $0.99 during the holidays, but are rarely, if ever, made free.
