One of the great things about the iPad is the fact that it’s so easy to use, a toddler could use it. In fact, they do use it. Recent studies show that roughly 40% of children ages 2-4 have used an iPad or similar device.

But unless you want to put the fate of your $500 tablet in the hands of a two-year old, you better put a case on it. Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot of choices out there that are kid-friendly. Enter the iKid…

The iKid is billed as a shock absorbing iPad case built for kids. It’s very durable, and is outlined with four easy-grip handles. It also has an optional home key protector, and an opening for the dock connector.

The iKid is obviously a Kickstarter project, and is currently sitting at $2,449 of its $7000 goal. The developer, Laura Graham, has already done the leg work and is raising money to start production.

If you have kids that like to play games or watch videos on your iPad, something like this seems like a no-brainer. The only question mark here seems to be build-quality, but at $30, it’s not much of a gamble.

What do you think of the iKid, good idea/bad idea?

not bad but won’t protect the kid from stepping on it

    • JamesR624

Exactly. No protection for the most fragile part, the screen. It needs something similar to the otterbox defender in terms of screen protection.

my buddy’s kid broke his ipad by throwing it away.. most damages come from dropping, not stepping on it

  • when i have a kid this would be like a day one purchase!

  • It looks ugly.

      hahah i like this comment

  • I need this, my 2 year old brother always has my iPad 3 and he knows how to use it better than a lot of people.

Obviously not impervious, but should prevent majority of screen breaking incidents due to drop. Even if the iPad falls screen side down, the thickness of the case will prevent impact on level ground.

Wow, I wanna stick my dick in her mouth and finish off!

technology is gripping even the youngest of children. my 18 month old son has been using the ipad and my iphone since he was 10 months old. He can swipe the front screen find youtube and knows which symbol is favourites by tapping on it. Then look for various videos ie ‘charlie and the numbers’ play them turn volume up and down and when it is finished play more. He knows how to find the photos and play the videos in there. I took him into apple and he did the same thing there. i think its fantastic!

  • Great idea!

  • 30 dollars for a piece of foam that will no protect the main part and most fragile part of an iPad. Just plain stupid.

  • Thanks for the great write up! Comments are pretty entertaining too!
