As you may have guessed, you can jailbreak iOS 6 beta 2 with RedSn0w 0.9.13dev1. This is a tethered jailbreak, and since the iPhone Dev Team has not updated RedSn0w to work with this latest firmware version, you will need to point to the prior beta firmware in order to jailbreak iOS 6 beta 2.

Check inside for the full step by step tutorial to learn how to easily jailbreak your iOS 6 beta 2 installation.

Note: You must be a developer to download iOS 6 beta firmware. You will need the iOS 6 beta 1 firmware in order to jailbreak iOS 6 beta 2. This only works for A4 devices and below, i.e. iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th generation, and iPhone 3GS. This is a tethered jailbreak.

Step 1: Install iOS 6 beta 2.

Step 2: Place your device into DFU mode.

Step 3: Download RedSn0w 0.9.13dev 1 and open it.

Step 4: Click Extras > Select IPSW > and point to your iOS 6 beta 1 firmware.

Step 5: Go back to the main screen and click Jailbreak. Make sure Install SSH is checked. This jailbreak does not install Cydia.

Step 6: Once the jailbreak has finished, place your device back into DFU mode, and go back to Extras > Select IPSW, and again point to your iOS 6 beta 1 firmware. Once identified, select Just boot from the Extras menu to perform a tethered boot. That’s it. Enjoy your jailbroken iOS 6 beta 2 installation.

As stated, this jailbreak does not install Cydia, but you can use SSH to install Cydia as noted in this tutorial.

Have you jailbroken your iOS 6 beta 2 installation? If so, sound off in the comments below.

  • Redsn0w 0.9.13 or 0.9.14???

  • Why do you continue to motivate beta users to install Cydia? As pointed out by saurik before, betas are for developers only and Cydia is not needed to develop apps or tweaks.

Betas are also covered by a NDA, so that change list that was posted here violates that NDA.

    • He is not motivating. He is just stating that it is possible. Yes I agree COMPLETELY with saurik on this. But if people want an amazing piece of software turned to crap, thats their problem.

      • By mentioning it, people who had their UDID registered for beta access will think its okay to do so.

  • Untether on my 3gs…;D

  • This is so stupid the fact that hackers are burning exploits from now by jailbreaking betas that apple will of course cover them on the final release ??

    • I think it’s using the same limera1n one from way back.

    • All the betas use limera1n

    • Just as the others have said. It’s not burning any new exploits. This is why it works only on A4 devices because it uses limera1n exploit. The dream team is smarted than that.

    • The exploit (limera1n) targets the A4 bootrom and can’t be patched without releasing a new device (ie the A5/A5X devices), and has existed for a few years now. A new exploit would never be wasted on a beta firmware.

    • You sir are why the jailbreak community is filled with idiots.

  • Mads Teland

There is Redsn0w 0.9.13dev2 as it jailbreak iOS 6 beta 2 without searching after iOS 6 beta 1 ipsw file πŸ™‚

    • 0.9.13dev2 would only fix some bugs if dev1 works just fine.

      • Mads Teland

Yeah, but it will not search to find iOS 6 beta 1 ipsw file because iOS 6 beta 2 is supported for this version πŸ˜‰

  • DomPerignon1

I just want to know ONE reason for jailbreaking an iOS that is in development, with Cydia useless and a tethered jailbreak. Why? Mr. Benjamin, I am sure you agree with me, then why? Do you think that developers need a guide for jailbreak iOS 6?

    • No body will want to own an iphone if its not customizable. If developers dont like the os the way they want it then why should anybody on the dev team who are most developers, will want to test new tweaks that will be awesome to use and fully tested by the time apple releases ios 6 to the public so that idiots like u wont bug them thats it doesnt work. Its a piece of crap etc.

      • DomPerignon1

Hey stupid you said: “No body will want to own an iphone if its not customizable” WRONG! Only 13%-15% of all the iPhones are jailbroken. You said: “If developers dont like the os the way they want it then why should anybody” They don’t have another option, stupid. And this guide on how to jailbreak iOS 6 is absolutely useless for 90% of the jailbreak community, only the 10% of idiots like yourself need this guide.

      • amazing…lol.i wonder how one makes it thought life with such a poor perspective, all i see here is hate, everybody here as a point more or less valid, nonetheless none respects it. yes i agree hackers are giving up exploits like candy which doesn’t really matter as long as they can pull it off when we need them the most. i know lots of people with un jailbroken idevices which manage just fine, most don’t know such thing as jailbreaking and perhaps they will never really need it. jailbreaking suits the needs of many but not everybody needs it.some of you are missing the point of this post. this is information not motivation, your mind uses this info the way it sees fit to you . don’t try to sound like someone is forcing you do anything.lots of people enrol for the developer program just to live in the bleeding edge of iOS development and doing so, help with bug fixing but do not yet develop apps, could use this jailbreak to continue using their tweaks as usual.surely i do not expect you to draw a circle beyond your own egocentric mind, but ill be watchful. ill piss in your parade big time, there is always a choice, jailbreaking is a choice, the jailbreaking community its been light years ahed of any non jail breaker users, most of the cool stuff you see today was inspired, robed or bought by Apple to include in their iOS updates and thats why more and more people are happy to own an iPhone today, do i make any sense to you.Furthermore We show the way,all Apple has to do is make great hardware and OS integration and follow the trend, the user knows whats best.FYI no matter how many PhDs you think you got, this attitude only makes you pathetic.Peace

        you sir… are a god

      • @DomPerignon1:disqus – Why are you here? Checking out the guide? (Facepalm)

    • chris nguyen

Jailbreaking will grant many things that a regular unjailbroken iphone can’t do. You can get ANY app FREE no matter the price. you can customize the phone pretty much anyway possible. Jailbreaking will also including many new functions to siri, maps, apps, etc. Think about it, instead of paying for $999.999 (iVIP Black), you can get that free

      • Piracy (facepalm) The reason for ~30% of jailbreaks. Thats just sad.

    • chris nguyen

Also, Jailbrakers are so advanced in upgrades, apple actually asks help from them to make new functions for siri and to design their iOS and also programming.
