With more than 50 million users, Dropbox is in a league of its own when it comes to third party cloud services. Its drag-and-drop storage platform allows users to keep their content synced across all of their devices.

Well the service just got a little bit better for iOS users. Dropbox 1.5 popped up in the App Store last night, bringing with it new features like automatic photo and video uploads, and an all-new content gallery view…

The new media upload feature is actually a pretty big deal. Once enabled, it will automatically upload any recently taken photos and videos upon each launch of the Dropbox application. In fact, the company wants you to use it so bad that they’re giving out 500MB of free storage space just for turning it on.

There are a few other enhancements in the update as well, such as the new gallery view. This allows users to see an overview of all of their content that they have stored with the service, making it much easier to find things.

All in all, this is a solid update. For those interested, Dropbox 1.5 is available, for both the iPhone and the iPad, in the App Store for free.

I’m sure the auto media upload feature has been there for longer than a day (or maybe the app was updated on Android first, I can’t quite remember).

    • It was there for a while (On PC), but for iOS it just update and I think this is a great update because I want it to be sync everytime. I don’t want to use photo stream and waste my free 5GB since I have 20GB on dropbox and I can use it with no worry at all.

Just so you know, Photo Stream does not count towards iCloud’s 5GB. I have it and I still haven’t used 1 kb of it!

      • Thanks didn’t know that first I thought it’d take my storage. I enabled them now so I won’t lose them when restore again….

no problem, just looking out! I know it’s easy to think it could be that way but Apple made it awesome like that haha neither your music or photos take up space. I’m not sure about documents from IWork but I think it’s the same.

  • I got 2.5GB for enabling it. You can get up to 3GB.

I also uploaded 6 pictures last night(EST), but I still don’t get any bouns space yet?

    • how do you enable it?…… i updated the app….. it never gave me the option to enable?

  • I wish there’s an option to choose what we want to upload, not just auto upload. Because some images I don’t want them to be upload, I have go to delete them and that’s annoying.
