MobileTerminal update finally lands in Cydia

By , Jun 6, 2012

Fans of the popular MobileTerminal utility for jailbroken iOS devices will be happy to hear that the frustration is finally over. After a several-month absence, an iOS 5-compatible version of the tool is now available in Cydia.

This means that you can forget about going through the tedious 5 step process of manually installing the app’s .deb file every time you want to get MobileTerminal on your device. The package is now just a tap away…

MobileTerminal, which is a bite-sized emulator of the Terminal utility in Mac OS, has a number of uses. You can use it to set file permissions and change passwords on your iOS device, or to SSH into remote systems.

So if you’ve been waiting for the updated app to hit Cydia, or this is the first time you’ve heard about it and want to check it out, you can find MobileTerminal 520-2 in the BigBoss repo. And don’t worry, it’s still free.

Have you grabbed MobileTerminal yet?

If you know where to go ( repo ) you could get MobileTerminal ( NEW) and that did work on iOS 5 before this came out..But this is proper for IOS 5….Nice

Why not SSH your device and use it with Prompt or iSSH console? As simple as that!

People don’t always have access to a computer.

Prompt and iSSH are iOS apps. Basically you just ssh to 127.0.0.1 and that’s that.

Dude. Both of these are iOS devices. You just login as root and enter the password that you set. As simple as that.

    iFile?

Some stuff is done better in a Terminal, but I agree, for 99% of the stuff people recommend you to SSH into your iPhone for it’s simpler with iFile, now this is mobile Terminal, ON your iPhone, not to it, so it has some beefy advantages, but I’d just bother loading it when I need it, it’s a small download, so even on Edge this should be a quick thing to load. ^__^

Aww I see, thanks (: I have always wonder what that thing even did. I’ll stick with iFile, I’m already a pro at it :P

I discovered the app-store app “Prompt”. Setting up a root@localhost connection gives you, in my opinion, a more convenient interface than the MobileTerminal app.

I use promt from appstore… use 127.0.0.1 and the usual root/pass.
    much better.
