If you’re looking for a jailbreak tweak that embeds your contact photos into your native Messages app, there’s a couple of options. There’s Copic, which adds photos to multiple applications, as well as other apps like ChatPic.

Today we’ll add another one to the pile with xMessages. The utility, which recently appeared in Cydia, takes the images from your contact list and applies them to your messaging threads in the default Messages app…

Once you’ve installed xMessages, you can access its options from within your Settings app. Here you can turn Contact Photos on and off, as well as the Show All Timestamps option — which inserts a timestamp for every message.

What xMessages lacks in features, it makes up for in reliability. I haven’t noticed any lag or stability issues since I installed the tweak early this morning. If you want to try it out for yourself, you can grab xMessages from Cydia for free.

What do you think of xMessages?

This vs. ChatPic and MarkThatMessage, which is better, other than the prices?

  • I thought Cyntact only added photos to phone.app

  • Can you do video of all apps like that? For example like Jeff’s video’s? 🙂 That would be cooool.

  • Copic is the best in my opinion.

  • Bitesms had this WAY BACK already. This is old news

  • better than the cyntac !

  • Dan

    bitesms does it better

  • Hey Cody where’s Jeff and his video swag

  • It works for me but when I sync my contacts with facebook, all of the profile pictures are each friend’s FIRST profile pictures ever from years ago..

Some good nostalgia but still a problem. Anybody else?

    • I’m having the same problem with the syncing with Facebook. :/

      • I think it is just the app I use… SmartSync and MyPhone+ are both having the issue

  • pity its only for ios5.x

  • i just downloaded it.

  • CyberMonkey

It says iOS 5 or HIGHER….well it does not appear to work on iOS 6….the app just closes.

It’s not compatible with 6.1.2 (crashes), so I am using bitesms instead.
