iPhone 5 Concept: Two Home Buttons

By , Jan 16, 2012

This concept video shows an iPhone 5 sporting not one, but two home buttons, right on the sides of the screen. I fail to see how practical this would be, especially when holding your iPhone in just one hand.

What do you think?

      hello,, i have a question,,
when i want to upgrade my jailbroaken iphone4 to the latest unthethers jailbreak,, do i need to repurchase my purchased tweaks again?
      pls.. i need answer,,

Nope. If you purchased through the Cydia store, when you reinstall them after your restore/jailbreak, they will still be registered to your device. At least that’s how it worked for the software I’ve purchased through Cydia (MyWi, LockInfo, etc.).

        def. no

Love the concept. Very practical. Huge applause to the maker.

Well done very clever idea however one thing

Wouldn’t it be tricky to press the buttons once you get a case on it
Suppose it depends what sort of case you get

Sometimes iDB is slow but wtheck – they have the best layout of any apple news sites.

It’s not always about speed. It’s about quality :)

Why iDB has never posted anything about SAM activation method? I mean how to do it and few people say that apple can ban iphone if SAM is used. So to clear those doubts.. It will be very helpful i guess..

hmmmmmm..not sure if i love it or hate it. i have mixed feelings i guess.but it does look cool and probably easy to get used to

The two home buttons, not crazy about the concept. What I do like about them is switching between apps without having to return to the home screen or holding down the home button. Of course this depends upon grouping apps together that you use at the same time, but I like it. A ‘home’ button on one side that’s like the volume control and does what the video shows seems more practical.

There is no way Apple will ever make an iPhone thiner then the iPhone 4/S.

No, and posting 15 fucking times on every thread isn’t going to get you an answer quicker…..wow

I don’t believe Apple will ever make a different size for the screen, due to the fact that then almost EVERY app designer has to design for both sizes of screen, and Apple does like to keep things standard across the board. Although the design of the phone itself has changed over the years, the basics (i.e. one home button, size of the screen, etc.) has remained the same over 5 years.

    • Anonymous

They could increase the screen size if they kept the ratio the same and make it so old apps just get zoomed.

The current small screen of the iPhone 4S drained much battery already. Now with bigger screen?…..the battery would last 5 4 3 2 1 Poofff!! 0% battery = )

I get two solid days out of my iPhone 4’s battery and my brother gets two days on his iPhone 4S’s battery. Turn off Wifi and Bluetooth when you’re not using them, turn your screen brightness down, and ensure apps aren’t running location services in the background.

      • http://twitter.com/EthanBB SK.i-Net

WiFi doesn’t save much. Brightness is the real battery saver :) I have it always at about 20% and I get 10h of work + one and a half day at standby.

The SJ concept is still better than this in my opinion.

I dont believe in this video. No more comment!

    boring

This is very impractical. I still can’t picture how you would even use these buttons. Are they on the side or front? Even if your hand is already in that position, it would still not be natural to press or touch these buttons simultaneously, especially on a wider phone. If you’re holding the phone like that in the palm of your hand, then you’re not navigating with that hand, the other hand is already doing the work anyways.

I do not like this at all.

I kind of like the two home button design. Having two extra buttons would allow for a plethora of new hot key shortcuts to add functionality to the phone. I especially like switching between multitasking applications, however this can be just as easily be done with a multitouch gesture and if you’re in the middle of a fast-paced coordination demanding game and you accidentally switch to the next app, that could become a nuisance.

    Looks sick..

  • Dan

I wouldn’t want it, it would be hell with a case, and what happens when you’re holding your phone diagonally to play games?

    I prefer classic

  • http://twitter.com/hxclos Carlitos 

Very true although there are patents filed by Apple that suggest bezel gesters. I think I even saw one patent where it used the back. Of course Apple doesn’t always use every patent they think up.

It reminds me of the new black berry bold 9900?

  • http://twitter.com/jeffreyhli P. Lo

that app switch feature is absolutely not a good design…

Apple don’t like buttons adding another is not an option

I don’t know about other people… but if this was the new iPhone I would hate it. Apple and Samsung are having legal issues already, why would they make the iPhone 5 look very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S II?

broken design~i better get iphone 4s~

This concept is horrible i don’t know how someone’s going to like this

  • http://twitter.com/EthanBB SK.i-Net

Sry, but this is dumb idea! If I have fingers in position (on hone buttons) I can push them both, but not only one without repositioning my hand. Plus Who the hell have fingers on both sides of phone? I have always my finger behind it. to hold it.

  • http://appletite.tumblr.com/ Alex

That is just a horrible idea….I’m sorry but it fails on so many levels.
