iOS 4.3 for Apple TV Released, Adds Vimeo Support and More

By , Aug 1, 2011

Apple has just released iOS 4.3 for the Apple TV, which adds a slew of new features to the device.

Although there still seems to be no changelog yet, John Gruber noted in multiple tweets new features in the update, such as the ability to now buy (you could only rent beforehand) TV shows directly from your Apple TV, as well as stream any previous TV shows you’ve purchased. It also adds support for Vimeo…

The update is only available on the new Apple TV, and, according to a few tweets, is only available in the United States (for now), which could explain why Apple hasn’t made the release officially public.

We’ll let you know as soon as we see the Apple TV update show up in other countries.

In the meanwhile, you download iOS 4.3 for Apple TV from our download section.

    Can this ios be jailbreaked??

    • Kevin Nunez

Yes, but I haven’t heard much about the jailbreak on the newest update, though. I’m sure one will be released soon.

This is great now we just need to have movies like this to be truly Mac/Pc free

This is really disappointing. I was very, very close to purchasing an Apple TV until I realized that it does not support external support for USB drives. Apple might loose the ‘Television’ battle since the Logitech Revue (Google TV) has now dropped to $99. I am a huge supporter of Apple, and own most everything, but the ATV seems like it is for the people who think the iTunes Music/Video Store is convenient and I surely do not plan on converting ALL my existing media over. Apple’s VS Google’s TV product… hmm… this seems like a no-brainier. Google, meet my Television!

Maybe there have been updates since but I haven’t heard many good things about the Logitech Revue, the UI didn’t look very good and a lot of content seemed to be blocked. I agree, if you are not invested in the ecosystem and can’t be bothered to convert then there are other alternatives.
