iH8sn0w has updated his Windows jailbreak tool, called Sn0wBreeze, with the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1. Sn0wBreeze is now the third tool available for an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1 (alongside PwnageTool and RedSn0w).

Sn0wbreeze 2.5 is hardly different from its last beta, except that is uses i0n1c’s untethered exploit. An added bonus is that the hidden multitouch gestures in iOS 4.3 are enabled with Sn0wBreeze. These gestures were unearthed a couple of months ago, and iH8sn0w has found a way to enable them in his latest jailbreak tool.

Sn0wBreeze is not recommended for those wishing to preserve their unlock. Again, Sn0wBreeze is Windows only.

Step 1: Download Sn0wBreeze from our iPhone downloads section. Also download the iOS firmware for your device. Save both files on your desktop.

Step 2: Launch Sn0wbreeze and agree to the warning by clicking OK.

Step 3: Add your 4.3.1 IPSW file from iTunes by either dragging it or browsing for it manually.

Step 4: Select your bootrom choice. If you do not know your bootrom, select either “New-bootrom/I don’t know” or “Detect it for me.” For the purpose of this tutorial, we will select the 2nd option.

Step 5: Select “Expert Mode.”

Step 6: Select “General”

Step 7: Make sure to “Enable Gestures Menu” to unlock the hidden mulitouch gestures. We also recommend installing SSH. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will not select the activate option. If you are on an official carrier (ex: AT&T in the U.S.), you don’t need to worry about activating.  Allocate about 880 MB of space for your partition.

Step 8: In the custom packages option you can pre-install Cydia packages to be built into your custom IPSW file. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will not install any extra packages.

Step 9: Once you have fully customized your IPSW, click the “Build IPSW” option.

Step 10: Once Sn0wBreeze has built your IPSW (you can play a little PacMan while you wait), you will now have the custom firmware file needed to restore and jailbreak your iPhone.

Step 11: Follow the instructions for putting your iPhone into DFU mode.

Once your iPhone successfully comes out of DFU mode (it may take a couple of attempts on your part), you should now have an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1 with hidden multitouch gestures!

Let us know if this tutorial was helpful for you, and what your experience with Sn0wBreeze is like for jailbreaking iOS 4.3.1. What do you think about those multitouch gestures?

i used this, but it seem the reception becomes 1 bar always, on my iphone4, any quick fix for it? it just shows one bar of reception but it still works well, just cosmestic

    • Aaron

Did we ever get an answer to this?

  • Dimz

Step 3 where it says locate the IPSW file is that the one we download or the one currently from iTunes(AppData Folder)? (sorry for the noob questions) lol

  • Compo

“Sn0wBreeze is not recommended for those wishing to preserve their unlock. ”

Really ??? I thought it was the other way around as Sn0wbreeze DOES preserve the unlock as it doesn’t touch the baseband.

  • samol

when I restore I got message error 31 what matter?

    I use Iphone 3GS ios 4.2.1 baseband 06.15.00

    • coz u r on iPad bb
first of all downgrade ur bb
      then restore ur iphone

  • dvn

This is the jailbreak for 4.3 so should you update your iphone to the same version before jailbreak? Maybe you should try that and then rerun the jailbreak.

I jailbroke my ipad 1 just now using redsnow without any problem and it took about 10 minutes.
    Here step that i follow:
    1. Update my ipad1 to 4.3.1 using itune.
    2. Download 4.3.1 software and rename the folder from iPad1,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.zip to iPad1,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore.ipsw
3.Download and run the redsnow executable and follow the provided instruction in this site for redsnow.

I have an iphone 4 v 4.1 bb 1.59.00..depending on ultrasnow for unlock..which would be the best way to upgrade to 4.3.1..redsnow while using tiny umbrella to preserve bb or snowbreeze..?

  • Hoping someone can help me here with this:

I have my iPhone4 JB on 4.1 and am planning to update to 4.3.1 and then JB it again. What is the proper way to update iOS? I heard that if I just update through iTunes, it will leave some JB files leftover and will remain but inaccessible on my iphone. or would I do a restore, and then update, and then JB? I don’t care about my baseband being updated. Thanks for any help!

  • Jamie

  • CW

    Hey guys-
used Sn0wbreeze 2.5 to jb last night. Previous jb was Comex’s safari based untethered (waited a couple of FW updates before diving back in). Took a few tries, getting error 1600 and 21, then used iReb that is included with Sn0w. Then couldn’t restore from backup as itunes kept saying not enough memory to create backup, even though I was restoring from backup. So I deleted many junk videos, podcasts or moved them to external hard drive until I had freed up space on drive C (Vista, btw). Each time it would start a restore then stop saying not enough memory and drive C would be almost full again, so clearly making a new backup while backing up. Went into iTunes and deleted some old backups through “edit/preferences/devices” and that freed up a bunch of space then ran restore from backup again.
This time it finished but photos, contacts, preferences, texts not restored…at all and hard drive is full again.
Any suggestions about what to change or directions to explore would be much appreciated.
Modem is 1.59. Also getting only 1 or no bars though calls coming/going through. I did have a LOT of photos in there, memory was mostly full, though I backed them up and freed some space before JB.

  • Shaz

i was just about to upgrade until i read all these comments on here and the Redsnow title. I am not down for my reception to fall to one bar.

Will this problem be fixed with like a new update in the near future orrr?

  • Cobray

    Worked perfect!

  • Fredixx

Nobody here answers to the original question asked in the article above about the hidden multi gestures and all seem focussed on what thre is wrong with Snowbreeze.
Snowbreeze is wrong! I have tried jailbreaking with it on several occasionss over the last few years and it NEVER worked.
Allways ended up by either Redsnow, Bkackrain, Spririt , Redsnow again and finaly Greenpoisoin, both with Limerain to get to 4.2.1 jailbroken now.
I think I stop here, as I was unhappy enough to have bought my iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 and there are still packages in Cydia not even adapted to that.
My advice to you all here is if you are so desperately in need of a minor update like 4.3.1 use Redsnow, at least that is reliable, easier and quick and in the meantime make sure to use Tiny Umbrella to save your SSH blobs on Saurik’s server for future use.

  • Draggun

I used this on an Optus Iphone 4 , and it worked like a treat. ONly issue I have now isit looks like my resolution has dropped, I can see scan lines on some of the icons, that I can’t see on an un JB’d iphone 4.
    Any one else notice this?

I’m going to reverse the JB and see if it goes away

    • ma

i have the same problem!!! ugh! it randomly stops and then it starts again… it must be some process

  • thank you. jailbreaking was a easyyyy

  • quig

how do i hit shift + restore?

    • Spencer

Hold in the Shift key while clicking Restore
This is why it’s called a Shift Restore

  • alex

Ok I JB my Iphone 3GS 4.3.1 using SnOwBreeze 2.5.1 and this are my steps, problems and solutions

    1. download snowbreeze [ latest version] 2.5.1
    2. download iPhone2,1_4.3.1_8G4_Restore
    3. Follow tutorial for snowbreeze.
    4. Get you iphone to DFU mode. { power+home for 10 sec. then release Power} Get the black screen.
5 Open Itunes and then select Restore While Pressing the Shift key.
    6. you should now have your iphone JB.

Now for the Problem I got.
After Getting ERROR 1600 several times.

1 download IREB Ithink any version would work
2 choose iphone 3gs[since that one is mine]
3 follow instructions would take about 10 secs or less.
4 now open itunes again by this time you should already have your phone in DFU mode.
5 restore your iphone again with the shift key and choose the same snowbeeze file. it showld now Restore flawlessly. Hope this help. thank you all. I’m now just wating for the Unlock programs.

    • Wolfy

I was facing the same Error 1600 (and 1601) problem. Downloading IREB and running it again solved it.

im using a iphone 3gs new bootrom on 4.3.2 it was jailbroken successfully using sn0w breeze 2.6 but is there any way i can unlock it?

  • Crypter

I have an iPhone 3GS from New Zealand which is Factory Unlocked.
I upgraded it to 4.3.2. It was working good with any simcard.
I tried to JB with redsnow and it didn’t work and Cydia was white colored.
Then I used snowbreeze 2.6 to JB it and it was passed without errors.
    But now I don’t have a signal!!!!!
I tried any simcard and it doesn’t work.
Then I tried to restore original firmware from iTunes and after the it said that my phone is blocked.

  • Pen

To be honest the tutorial means nothing to me.
I have downloaded the software as directed and then I’m prompted to “drag ipsw file here”. what is the ipws file, where do I get it [clicking on shift and restore only gets me the “about to restore your system window”] and dragging anything to the snowbreeze window does bugger all. all I am presented with is the not applicable icon.

  • AJ

The IPSW file that snowbreeze makes does not appear on my desktop or anywhere on my computer, why is it not working??
