iOS 4 Unlock for All Basebands Available

By , Jun 21, 2010

ultrasn0w 0.93

That was quick. It was so quick that this iOS 4 unlock for all iPhone basebands even came before an official jailbreak for the latest firmware.

UPDATE: There is now a jailbreak for the iPhone 3G on iOS 4.

In a tweet sent to their followers today, the Dev Team released UltraSn0w 0.93 that will unlock basebands 04.26.08 thru 05.13.04. Yes, that means that UltraSn0w will unlock the following basebands:

  • 04.26.08
  • 05.11.07
  • 05.12.01
  • 05.13.04

This is exactly the reason why I told jailbreakers and unlockers to hold off on updating to iOS 4. If you haven’t updated to the latest firmware then you will be able to install UltraSn0w via Cydia.

If on the other end you have already updated to iOS 4, then rejoice because the Dev Team will update their jailbreaking tools (namely RedSn0w and PwnageTool) so you can jailbreak iOS 4. If you have an iPhone 3G on iOS, you can jailbreak by following these instructions.

Here are the instructions to unlock your iPhone:

  1. Make sure your iPhone is jailbroken.
  2. Go to Cydia and search for “ultrasn0w”. If you can’t find it, add the following repo: repo666.ultrasn0w.com
  3. Install UltraSn0w.
  4. Reboot your iPhone.
  5. Done!

Feel free to write a comment if you have any question or concern.

I’m over in Italy and I’m using a Vodafone SIM card. I’m just a simple User, trying to figure out this jailbreak /unlock procedure.

I think I may have a non-fixable situation, but I thought someone may be able to help.

I tried to Jailbreak then unlock my iPhone. Here’s what I STARTED out with:

    iPhone 3G
    iOS 4.1
    iTunes 10

    1) I went to jailbreak with RedSn0w 0.9.5b5-5, pointing to the iOS 4.0 ipsw file. This seemed to perform properly. When I opened the phone, my contacts and any way of using the phone was gone (i.e. I couldn’t even open a phone dialing pad).

    2) I then went to open UltraSn0w through the Cydia software. I could not get the phone to respond to a wireless environment, so I could not search for and run UltraSn0w. I was stuck right there.

    3) I then realized my best bet may be to go to an earlier version of iOS. I learned I could do this through TinyUmbrella. I now downgraded the iOS to 4.0 with the same ipsw file I already had standing by for RedSn0w. This worked. My contacts were back and so was wireless capability.

    4) I searched for UltraSn0w in Cydia and ran it … and here’s where I hit a dead end. I cannot get my Vodafone SIM (I don’t have a contract but just recharge for usage) to find service in the phone. My only assumption can be that it did not unlock. I may be mistaken, but I don’t believe it’s a problem with the Vodafone SIM … I had unlocked the same phone a year ago (iOS 3.0) and that SIM (recharge for usage) worked just fine.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Or, am I just out of luck because 4.1 was on the phone at one point and it set the phone firmly in a way in which it cannot be unlocked (even though I have 4.0 on the phone now).

    Thank you very much.
    JG

I have read up on Baseband and better understand it now … and I think my issue is that when I upgraded to 4.1, the update also updated my Baseband to V 5.14.02 … and even though I downgraded to iOS 4.0, the unlock for this baseband is not yet available … and this is why I can’t unlock the phone with Ultrasn0w 1.1.

      Is this correct?

If so, does anyone have any idea when Ultrasn0w might be updated to unlock baseband V 5.14.02?

      Thanks so much,
      JG

      • JG

        And further more …

I have learned that another Guardian at the Gate is the Boot Loader, of which I have the evil 5.09 version … which does not allow me to downgrade my baseband.

So … I have everything one does not want to have to unlock their phone:

If anyone knows how one can be notified when the Dev Team has successfully unlocked baseband 5.14.02, please do post that info here.

        Thank you,
        JG
(I get the feeling I’m pretty much just talking to myself)

Turn 3g cellular system off. In my case i can only get EVDO speed, not 3g speed……

  • noone

hey..u not alone..i am too stuck with baseband 5.14.02 and bootloader 6.04 on my iPhone 3g…After loong search now i am just waiting patiently…

    • http://nlight.org.ua Neolo

Seems to be we are in a bullshit with you, buddy… 5.14.02 BB was a trap. Can’t find a way to go back and Dev-Team working on a 4.1 jailbreak preserving BB update. SUCKS, MAN!

  • http://nlight.org.ua Neolo

I have same problem with 5.14.02. I can downgrade whatever version from 4.1 but not baseband. I have an idea about this. Did anybody tryed to erase or make baseband firmware corrupted just unplugging usb during 4.1? Probably after broken baseband we will ablle replace it from previous ipsws? ha?
Or maybe IPSW modifying will help?

  • arimza

Hi there ! I have exactly the same problem with the firmware 5.14.02 . I did the same things that most of you have done. I downgraded to 4.0 or 4.0.1 and even to 3.1.3 but nothing of these gave me the chance to change the baseband. Can any one tell me how can I find out the bootloader??.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    thanks.
    Arimza

    • http://nlight.org.ua Neolo

Have no idea about bootloader, can’t find any info about this. I think solution is hiding in ipsw modifying, need to try erase 5.14.02 or make it corrupted during restore using official 4.1 then probably we will have a chance to reflash it with previous ipsw. Itunes may think that BB firmware is missing or damaged, or something like this. Let’s try all ways guys. My ICQ is 490one3zero4seven9.
After I saw that there is exists such simple way to downgrade without any SHSH just renaming IPSWS, now I belive that there is a simple way to fix BB.

  • http://nlight.org.ua Neolo

Please post any ideas. Mine first:
    1) May be open iphone case to reach battery than using iTunes start restore to 4.1, in a middle of a progressbar dissconnect battery to break process. If just unplug usb, iphone will keep updating by itself, maybe battry removing will damage BB writing. In result it must be working ios but no calls or wifi etc. Than need to try restore using older ipsw.

  • pvp

I am also stuck on 5.14.02. searching a lot came to know that there is no unlock for this BB.

  • http://nlight.org.ua Neolo

Of cource there is no unlock, we have to search how to erase it and downgrade and not unloking!!

  • JG

Hello to all … nice to know I’m not alone in all this.

@ arimza “Can any one tell me how can I find out the bootloader??”

Install Cydia on your phone, then download and install the ap “FuzzyBand”. When you run it “FuzzyBand” will tell you the version of your BootLoader. Anything above 5.08 is currently not going to allow you to downgrade your Baseband.

    JG

  • arimza

    Hi JG !!!
Thank you so much for the info about Fuzzyband.
It seems to be that I’m not a very lucky person since I run fuzzyband and I saw that my bootloader version is 5.08 but I can’t downgrade the baseband.

This is what it says on the iphone screen.

    Bootloader Version 05.08 ( G2M3S2)
    Baseband Version ICE2- 05.14.02
    Iphone OS Version 4.0

    Not Supported

(in red) Downgrading from 05.14.02 is not supported at this time.

So ….. Is there any other way to downgrade the BB without Fuzzyband????

I think that the solution is coming soon….!!
At least the Dev Team has released the new version of redsn0w to jeilbreak our Iphones on the new 4.1 firmware.

    All we need is …….patience.

  • bloom

hey guys can someone post the program that will allow the unlock for the 5.14 baseband when the dev guys release it? id appreciate it. thanks =)

  • Rick

..patiently waiting for any 5.14 Baseband unlock news..

  • http://nlight.org.ua Neolo

At least 6 month to wait solution or longer if it possible to unlock

  • Bloom

any way to downgrade from the 5.14 on the 3GS ?!

  • jay

i’ve tried everything from fuzzyband to DownBB and there is nothing i can do to get off 5.14

  • JV

So my iphone 3g LCD is now fixed courtesy of my hard-earned cash. And congratulations to me, I now have a brand new itouch! My phone can’t get any signal at all. I JBd it with Spirit, tried unlocking it with blackra1n after which my phone just hung up after the procedure, so I tried ultrasn0w instead.

It got stuck on Searching, and now it says “no signal”. It makes me think it got unlocked somehow because Carrier in About now says “Globe 5.0″ When I pop in a Smart SIM it says “5.0″. I’m from the Philippines btw.

Why did this happen? When I had a black screen, I restored my iphone thinking it would really restore it but not knowing that it’s a trap setup by Apple. I should have known better. It had 4.1 but the technician at the first store where I dropped by managed to downgrade it to 3.1.3. I didn’t know that the baseband was still at 05.14.02.

Tried downgrading the bb using Fuzzyband, but no, it says it does not support my phone because my bootloader is above 5.08. Mine has 6.04. I must be the luckiest guy in the world.

  • Julio

according to the DEV team, as soon as the new FW comes out from Apple, they will also bring out a new version to unlock all Basebands, it’s just taking so long, sorry to tell you but for now, you will have a very expensive Ipod like all of us, until that solution arrives.

  • Kevin

    Hello~ can anyone help me?
I’m using a iPhone 3G with os 3.1.3, baseband 05.12.01. I have jailbroke my iPhone with Spirit, launched Cydia to find and successfully installed ultrasn0w 1.1-1. However, the phone is not unlocked with any luck. Can anyone help me? I did a lot of research for unlocking firmware 3.1.3 and baseband 05.12.01 on iPhone 3G, it all tells me to use ultrasn0w 0.93 to do it, but there is only ultrasn0w 1.1-1 available on repo666.ultrasn0w.com. Any ideas??

    Thanks for all your help!!!

  • JV

Guys, the unlock for all our miseries was released last week! I managed to get my phone unlocked. It’s actually a bit more complicated than previous unlocking procedures, but it’s still kinda simple. Takes a bit more time, though.

    It’s on this website:
    http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/2010/11/29/unlock-iphone-4-2-1-ultrasn0w/

Just follow the steps and you’ll be okay. I had an iPod Touch for two months, now I have my iPhone back!

  • Bloom

did anyone try JVs thing to unlock it? JV were you on bb 5.14? cause thts the major issue

    • JV

Sorry for the late reply as I was on vacation. Yep, I was on 5.14 and now it’s on 6.15. Just follow the steps on this website (link above). It’s mainly using redsnow, and you’ll be fine.

      • AKP

Dear JV.. iphone 35 iOS 4.0.1, BB 5.14.02 and bootloader 5.09.. is it possible to jailbreak and unlock… as per your answer i think yes… but please confirm again taking the bootloader into consideration… please.. it has been more than 7months I am using a iPod touch… ha ha ha

I too finally got my 3g unlock last week. My got stuck on 5.14 baseband.

    2. Then restore your iphone in dfu mode. see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bITIiGswjFI

    3. Then run Redsnow and follow instruction. make sure you check the baseband and it will give you a warning don’t worry just click ok and continue.

    4. Last step: run Cyndia install repo666 . That’s it. Enjoy your iPhone again. Hope it help :-)

  • mmm

guys, I think I got some progress, lol. Eventually my iphone 4 is jailbreaken and unlocked now as I did some stuff to it today .. but I need to try it.

my posts here were on June 27 and on July 5 where on the last one I posted a website that I have found back then. Well I decided to check it today and what do you know, somebodys good work is posted already :)

what I did is jailbreak it with jailbreakme.com … and then unlock it with Ultrasn0w … as I may have been lucky to get one of the first iphone 4 so my broadband was 01.59 . And since I’ve used the phone only for web via wifi from time to time, I’ve never updated it … lol, lucky me … I actually connected it to iTunes for first time today (after almost 6 months). It showed that update is available, well thanks but NO THANKS, lol

so here I put a T-mobile prepaid sim card that I had laying around for like 5 years and the phone did read it’s number. So I will add a phone line to my account tomorrow to see if it actually works though.

    I’ll let you know :)

    later

  • mmm

hell yes, it works fine with T-Mobile :) I had to wait like 2 hours after I added an extra line for the service to get activated, but well it is all fine now :)

thanks a bunch to http://www.iclarified.com and the people that made it all possible.

Running jailbroken iPhone 3G with 4.21 and Baseband 5.15.04. Is there any way to unlock?

  • Ramnik

Got it done! Many many thanks!

  • Jack

I have a iPhone 3GS 4.2.1 jailbroken with greenpois0n, baseband is 06.15.00 – i think its something like that, its definitely not one of the ones mentioned. I installed ultrasn0w’s latest version, reboot etc. then put in my T-mobile UK sim and the data worked, but calls drop immediately after dialing and texts don’t send. The iPhone is originally from o2 in the UK and its annoying how ultrasn0w has definitely unlocked it to some degree, T-Mobile comes up in the top left as the carrier and data worked but no calls and texts – HELP!

  • sankalp

    Hey there,

thanks a lot, worked like charm on my iphone 3g with 3.1.3

    keep the good work up!!!!
