Gradient wallpapers are some of the most downloaded gallery images in the iDB Wallpapers of the Week collection. This genre is followed closely by textured backgrounds. “Vivid Friction” collection combines both an appealing paint brush stroke texture with a gradient between contrasting colors. A series of four downloads, it jumped off my X feed when scrolling aimless through other drivel on Musk’s social platform.

Our collection today features graphic artist @wallsbyjfl, an account that regularly posts great mobile device backgrounds.
The series of four images is part of a current trend on X, where artists feature a series of wallpapers cut from a single wide screen, landscape size file. When scrolling side-to-side on X, each image forms a continuous large format picture. In this case, these four “Vivid Friction” backgrounds are cut from a larger fill size image. The brush strokes are continuous when viewed left to right.
The trend is a fun way to feature individual wallpapers, but it would be most enjoyable if artists also included the larger singular image file to be used as a corresponding iPad or desktop size wallpaper, instead of just cut down for candy bar sized mobile handsets.
My favorite of the series is pictured second, featuring the largest orange and red brush stroke in the textured design. The gallery below mirrors the transition from image one to four.
If you would like to inform or submit wallpapers to the collection, catch up with me via @jim_gresham on X or @jim_gresham@mastodon.social, where I curate the gallery. I am collecting information and wallpapers for the iPhone Duo. The goal is to have a collection of iPhone Duo – ready backgrounds ready to post the week Apple’s folding handset launches. Catch up with me on socials to submit images, tips, or chat about the new UI.
