8-1-3 update

Apple has released iOS 8.1.3 this morning, after weeks of extensive testing. The release notes say that the update includes increased stability and performance improvements, as well as various major bug fixes. It also reduces the amount of storage required to perform updates.

You can access the new firmware over the air via Settings > General > Software Update, or via iTunes by connecting your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a computer. But as usual, we recommend that users who are jailbroken, or plan to jailbreak, avoid the update for now.

iOS 8.1.3 change log

For those looking to update, 8.1.3 is compatible with the iPhone 4s and newer, the iPad 2 and newer, and the fifth generation iPod touch. You can use one of the methods mentioned above, or grab the firmware from our Downloads page.

To reiterate, this is more of a maintenance release, and we don’t expect it to include any major changes or new features—Apple is likely saving that for iOS 8.2—so it’s not a mandatory update. However, if you’ve been experiencing issues with iOS 8.x.x, it’s probably worth looking at.

Lol one line perfect Cody or maybe it was Jaxx!

    • Techrax

bigU Movies app from Cydia is awesome. I already downloaded American Sniper, Mortdecai, The Wedding Ringer, Vice, Taken 3, Paddington, Night At The Museum 2, Into the Woods, Birdman, Selma, Whiplash, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Unbroken, John Wick, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, The Imitation Game, Fury, The Equalizer, Horrible Bosses 2, The Interview and Exodus: Gods and Kings on my iPhone 6 Plus from the “bigU Movies” app I got from Cydia. I think either xsellize repo, insanelyi repo, Appcake or Zeusmos has the bigU Movies app

      • Mohammed Khaled

        Better than moviebox?

      • Nasser Cedeño

        I don’t think So

      • nonchalont

No, but it’s a good alternative incase movie box goes down. Everything loads quickly.

      • InfinitePlusOne

What is it called? Anything works without Jailbreaking please? 8.1.2 6+

  • Jeff Ramirez

This post is Cody’s way of saying, “First!”

  • jp2002

iCloud keychain still not fixed 🙁 Spotlight fix was a much needed one though.

    • Mohammed Khaled

What’s the spotlight fix you are talking about? Is it that live search on the net not working issue?

      • ericesque

Nope. For some people installed apps were not included in Spotlight search results. I spent a half hour poking around settings on my mom’s new iPad at Christmas…

      • Cho

This has happened to me plenty of times. When I search for my apps, they didn’t show up but I have them installed already.

      • Rowan09

Me too. When you type in anything it stays blank.

  • Andrew Breyen

Is this jailbreak friendly? Or are the current exploits burned?

    • Shawn

There appears to be security content addressed in the update. We shall see.

    • Andrew

      Nope. Yup.

  • Jonathan

    Hehe..and I restored 2 days ago. ^-^ #perfecttiming

    • Just jailbroke two phones yesterday, #AwesomeTiming.

    • Andrew Breyen

      Me too!!

    • Diego

      apple still signing the 8.1.2
So you still can update to this version yet.

  • Shawn

A nice big (in size) update. Usually means a good number of changes. Let’s see some increased stability.

  • Mohammed Khaled

If it’s jailbreakable and it really fixes this occasional lag in iPad air I will be the first to update as a jail Breaker! Or the last! 😛

  • Merman123

    Changelog

  • Fanboy 

Breaking news next month: iOS 8.1.4 released, followed by 8.1.5 the following week. Then, iOS 8.2 in March and 8.2.1, 8.2.2 and 8.2.3 the following week due to bugs with Apple Watch and iPhone. LOL

    • Dany Quirion

an OS can always be optimized no matter what 🙂

  • Shawn

    Also OS 10.10.2 is out

  • john diaz

Alright TaiG team it’s your turn now.

    • Preben Faarkrog Hansen

      • john diaz

That would be a dream come true let’s hope it happens.

  • Blake

“For those looking to update, 8.1.2 is compatible ” Should be .3 🙂

  • ericesque

Would love to see a fix for the glitches in Messages when using 3rd party keyboards… assuming what Fleksy says is true and it is indeed on Apple’s end.

Curious… is anyone experiencing issues requiring a force quit of Messages when using a different 3rd party keyboard?

    • Jonathan

It’s a common problem with several keyboards.

    • Sleaka J

I use Swype and I haven’t had to force quit Messages for a very long time.

  • AnoNymouz

    Battery issue fixed?

  • Ian Leon

    Nice ads guys.

  • Tony Trenkle Jr.

Does this kill the PP jailbreak? Cause I was JUST going to update to 8.1.2 and do that…

    • Merman123

Play it safe and update to 8.1.2 and jailbreak on that. Apple should still be signing 8.1.2.

    • Jonathan

Go to iDownloadblog’s download page and download 8.1.2 for your device, then hold down Shift for WIndows or I think Alt for Mac and click “update”. Select the downloaded iOS and wait. 🙂

      • Tony Trenkle Jr.

I know how to do it, I just didnt know if they were signing 8.1.2 still or not.

      • Jonathan

They usually stop after about a week of release.

  • Ivan Diardo 

What if I told you that a jailbreak will soon be released? Who knows which group will do it this time. :v TaiG, or maybe another newer one!

    • Ian Leon

Ohhhh yes…. The ramen noodle jailbreak

  • Ian Leon

I think the smoothness of the system improved.

  • Hector Ricky Flores

Does it fix slow wifi issues? Like unable to connect, or when it does connect it’s painfully slow on iPhone 6?

  • Ian Leon

I have this sort of superstition that a wallpaper can affect the stability of the OS … for example, if I want it to be really stable I use the iOS 5 wallpaper.

    • Damian

      Really?

      • Ian Leon

Yes, and I have noticed that if I use the blue underwater wallpaper from iOS 8 beta…. It will become unbearable.

    • Sandeep Roy

Now that you mention it, in the past since 7, i had this problem with a Custom wallpaper backed up. Going back to stock helped 🙂

  • ant3kn

    Any speed improvements???

    • Bugs Bunnay

yup. my iPhone got 10 extra horsepowers

  • Franklin Richards

Is this a bug ridden update or is it safe to update? It’s sad that I feel sketchy about updating official iOS updates but Apple has dropped the ball a lot lately.

  • hkgsulphate

wow why is the file size so big

  • Jailbreak has been patched, it’s listed on the change log via apple’s website. They give props to TaiG and Pangu for finding flaws, but list them as patched in 8.1.3.

    • Chad Bradley

      link to changelog?

  • DIesel

Ugh I was JUST about to take the plunge from iOS 7, now I’ll wait -_-

    • credulousgeek

its better to stay there I am regretting why I updated to iOS8 my new phone is causing me hell of trouble gosh it suck I am frustrated

  • KyleVPirate

Finally they fix the multitouch multitasking bug that’s been plaguing my iPad Air since iOS 8.1. Took them long enough. I’ll wait if we can jailbreak this version though. Any word on that? I’m happily jaikbroken

    • Jordan James Dalzell

I know finally it’s fixed. Only took Apple a year.

  • Young

Will ios 8.1.3 patch movie box, play box, hd cinema ect…?

    • ant3kn

Was it working on iOS 8.1.2?

      • Young

It is on my phone still.

      • Guest

Jailbroken? Mine not, and whenever I;m trying to installing from different sites I’m getting an error

      • Young

No i’m not jailbroken. I download mine through ipwn store.

      • ant3kn

        Could u send the link?

      • kumar714

It’s been working fine for me. I’m on 8.1.2 NOT jailbroken.
not all version works thou I have installed buid 4.

      • Andrieux Querido

Is there any Hack for Last version?
Its too slow to donwload a movie.

  • MarioBros640

Is signing for iOS 8.1.2 still up?

    • Chad Bradley

      Yes

  • leart

Updating from 6.1.3 is still huge 😀

  • Mohammed Khaled

    Jailbreak is killed

  • Evade3rs

We still have the wallpaper bug in iOS 8.1.3 dam Apple fix this! Missing high-quality and sharp wallpapers

    • Chang in Charge

      what wallpaper bug?

      • Evade3rs

After iOS 8 the wallpapers quality has decrease, they look kinda blurry compare to iOS 7 wallpapers, the used to looked sharp and high queality. If you haven’t notice here is a example!

The first one is the imagen in the photo app, the second one is the pic Applied as a wallpaper. I zoom back to ensure the best quality and no parallax activated.

  • 01011001001

yup broke my jailbreak lol. no worries, spare iPhone 6

    • Tony Trenkle Jr.

Of course it breaks the jailbreak…anytime you update you’re gonna have to rejailbreak if you can.

      • 01011001001

yeah cool whatever it’s a spare iPhone, doesn’t matter.

  • Kei_Oz

Wifi drop doesn’t seem to be listed as fixed. So why bother…

  • Tim

My 5s drains like crazy too, I have to charge it twice a day, so does my friends iPhone 5. This never happened in iOS 7, wish I could just roll back.

    • credulousgeek

I can feel you bro I have called for replacement of my phone as it suddenly heats up and drains my battery like shit I noticed that i had 20% battery and within a minute it slashed to 14% thats insane I did upgrade to iOS 8.1.3 but useless I am pissed!

      • Tim

Even the replacement will do the same as long as it’s runnning iOS 8. They really screwed us up. Surprisingly no one has these problems on iPhone 6 and 6 plus. It’s almost a strategy to force us to upgrade.

  • Xee

Airdrop fixed? I seem to have problems with that going from iPhone 6+ to iPhone 5, but not the other way around.

  • sailesh

Fixes an issue which allows users to install cydia on their devices.

  • Sandeep Roy

7.1.2 on 5c/5s was perfect & stable, in my experience. Will wait for 8.2 🙂

  • Out5poken

That pp jailbreak came in the nick of time! ..Phew!

  • I’m Batman.. Kinda’

Every time I go to change my wallpaper under the settings tab, it freezes when I tap still. It’s been like this for the last few updates. Can’t believe they haven’t fixed it. I’ve got a 128GB 6+. Anyone else having this problem?

    • Joel Torres ツ

My settings app completely crashes when I tap on stills. Was wondering of it was just me.
iPod touch 5th gen iOS 8.1.3
