Twitter launches Vine for the web with new TV mode

Good news Vine fans! Your favorite social network is available on the web. Twitter announced yesterday that you can now visit your favorite Viners’ profiles on the web to browse, like, share, and comment on videos.

Additionally, Twitter introduced a new feature to the site (currently available on the web only) called TV mode, which allows you to play all of the videos from your home feed, or from any given profile, in sequence…

Here’s the announcement from Vine’s blog:

“Today, we’re introducing a new way to experience Vine: on the web. Log in at vine.co to view your home feed and like, comment, and share videos just as you do on our mobile apps. You can also visit your favorite users’ Vine profiles to browse the videos they’ve created since joining Vine. Plus, now you can share your profile with others so they can see your posts.

Finally, be sure to check out a new feature we’ve added exclusively on the web: TV Mode –– it’s an entirely new way to watch Vine videos. Click the TV Mode button in the upper right corner of your feed or any profile to view the collection of videos in sequence and in full screen mode.”

I must say, I’m actually really impressed with Vine’s web interface. You may not like it if you’re not into minimalistic design, but I think it looks great and is very easy to navigate. It also makes it super easy to share videos.

And the new TV mode works well enough. It’s actually a cool idea, as it saves you from having to manually scroll through your feed or profiles. But videos look terrible on my larger display, and you’re forced to watch re-vines.

It’ll be interesting to see what the new web interface does for Vine and its popularity. It was the runner-up social networking app in our Best of 2013 poll, and at the time of this writing, it’s #23 in the App Store’s top free app list.

If you want to check it out, you can visit Vine’s new web portal here, and download the iPhone app here.
