WhatsApp users will be happy to hear that the popular messaging service has updated its iOS client this afternoon. The update brings the app to version 2.11.3 and includes new features and improvements.

Most of the improvements have to do with the recently-added voice messaging feature, particularly in regards to accessibility, but perhaps the biggest change is that you can once again send longer videos…

Here’s your 2.11.3 change log:

– new video picker (can send longer videos again)
– improvements in Voice Messaging (especially in Accessibility parts)
– other VoiceOver fixes and improvements
– many bug fixes and performance improvements

While the bug fixes and improvements are nice, users will likely be most pleased with the new video picker, which lets you send longer videos. Now, instead of a 45 second limit, you can send up to 1:30 clips.

WhatsApp is arguably one of the most popular cross-platform messaging apps on the market. Earlier this month, the company announced it now has 300 million active users, sending 11 billion messages per day.

The app recently changed its business model on iOS, going from $0.99 up front to free with a yearly subscription. It’s free for the first year and $0.99 per year after that. WhatsApp is available in the App Store.

Every time i see whatsapp in the updates list i wish it is a new UI !!

    But why the old screenshots?
the time stamps in the new update are now in the same chat bubble.. which sucks so bad ( for the text on the right at least..) since the time stamps are now always on the right, when in the older version it used to be on the right for the chats on the left and on the left for the chats on the right… which was perfect IMO.. now it’s just too messy.

And it covers the image thumbnails as well.

is there any jailbreak hack to be able to send videos longer than 1:45? That would be even more useful!

  • Chuck Finley

Now if they’d only update it so it didn’t crash because of jailbreaks.

    • Sam

It doesn’t. You probably have some tweak on your phone thats causing that to happen.

JailBroken or not, i’ve always had intermittent issues with Assistive Touch disappearing in chat mode. Close App & pronto it’s right there.

Some not All Apps may/can have conflicts. Mostly works fine & limited crashes are not related solely to this version.

I was able to send videos a minute and a half long before this update. Am I missing something here? I remember there was a 45 second limit a while back, but I was able to send 1:30 videos for a while already.

How about they add the option to disable “online” status!!!!!!

Why is it only me who raises this privacy concern? Hey IDB, how about you do an article about why WhatsApp does not give the user an option to disable online status?

Settings => Chat Settings => Advanced (translated from GER to ENG, hope I got the right words ^^)
Isn’t that what you are looking for?

  • Codvisp

    I just sent a video 4 minutes 52 seconds long…

  • rasengan720 .

I have this question in my head since they launched the unlimited voice messages feature.. How did they managed to make the required changes for unlimited voice messages without the user updating the app?
