mophie helium

This must be ‘unveil your latest product’ week for accessory makers. Logitech took the wraps off its new Ultrathin Keyboard for the iPad mini yesterday, Griffin just announced new designer iPhone 5 cases, and now Mophie has come forward.

The California-based designer and manufacturer introduced the iPhone 5 version of its popular battery case line today, the Juice Pack Helium. The case is 13% thinner than any previous Juice Pack, and features a built-in 1500mAh battery…

From the Helium’s product description (via MacRumors):

“Engineered with edge-to-edge protection and outfitted with 80% more battery life to keep your iPhone 5 safe and charged, the juice pack helium allows you to truly Do more™. Its elegant, thin design makes it the perfect accessory, easily fitting into any pocket or handbag. The enhanced forward-ported acoustics redirects the iPhone audio towards you, optimizing playback and maximizing your experience.”

The case’s dimensions come in at 2.49 in x 5.49 in x 0.59 in, and its 1500 mAh battery can increase your iPhone 5’s battery life by 80%— which Mophie says is good for an additional 6 hours of LTE use. And it’s rechargeable via a micro-USB cable.

I have to say, I’ve been pretty happy with my iPhone 5’s battery life. So I don’t really have a need for a battery case. But I guess if you do, the Helium seems like a great option. If you want to check it out, it’s available on Mophie’s website for just $79.99.

Too bad mophie is infamous for making batteries that fail after 1 to 2 charges. I’ve bought two different batteries from them and both failed after a couple of charges. Have only heard bad things (mostly the same problem) from everyone I talked to about them who had them, both online and offline. Nearly every review online from amazon to best buy is negative and stating the same exact problem with nearly every one of their products.

  • Looks alright but the price is crazy.

What are you talking about? “…it’s available on Mophie’s website for just $79.99.”

yeah thats the crazy part, $80 for a battery…. ow yeah, and some plastic!

I rather have a portable battery pack, got a 5200mAH one and works great!

  • Ordered! At last! 🙂 Still own juice pack plus from when I bought iPhone 4 through 4S till now… and it’s still working and charges my iphone 4S about 65%

  • On top of the poor battery that’s typical on their devices (I’ve had 2) the paint job is awful and chips away very, very easily. I purchased a white case for my 4S and it was pretty much entirely black after 6 months (due to paint chipping) and I am not exactly rough with my devices. So, I would strongly recommend you avoid!

  • There must be something wrong with my iPhone 5 cause the battery does not last at all 🙁

Should’ve worked the same deal as incase to use the lightning connector instead of a micro usb.

  • Looks like a tv remote control to me

Why so little capacity? There is a battery for the GS3 in amazon that is a quarter of the size and price of this case (it replaces the battery inside GS3, it’s not a case), and has 4300 mAh. Why is this impossible for the iPhone? I would open my iPhone if that means more battery. Here is the link if you don’t believe(remove parenthesis and put dots:

could be even thinner, if the back of the iPhone, and the front cover of the battery could be removed, and put the two batteries directly to each other, making i5 just as thick as about the 3GS
