If you’ve been trying to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the newly released iOS 5, you might have encountered the error message saying that you’re device could not be restored because an “internal error occurred.” In most cases, you’ll get the “3004” error message, too.

If that’s the case, do not freak out. Breath and relax. Apple’s servers are getting slammed with thousands of people trying to do the exact same thing as you…

The same applies if you are getting Error 3200, or any other error for that matter.

My suggestion? Sit back, and check back in an hour or two. That is if you can live without iOS 5 for a few more hours, of course. If that’s not the case, well, then hit that refresh button over and over again until it works!

  • CO

I was getting the 3200 error then I turned off firewall and anitvirus and it worked.

    • Lilirose

I’ll try this one also. I got the same error. Thanks.

    • Jon Garrett

iOS is supposed to be sooo much better than Android but with every new version that comes out., apple’s support forums and fan site forums light up with people crying about error messages and itunes behavior. whats up with OTA updates like Android has always done?

      • CrazyBraulz

They just implemented OTA in iOS 5. They didn’t have it in iOS 4… So I hope I answered your question. Also you won’t be able to use it until you have iOS 5 and apple releases an update.

im getting error message 3173. does anyone know what that is?

  • al

I kept getting error message 3194. For 2 hours I have been trying to update. In reading apple’s website error 3194 is related to the itunes software trying to contact gs.apple.com.

I checked my hosts file and found that gs.apple.com was associated with IP 74.208.10.249. I kept pinging and running trace routes on the IP and was reaching it successfully. After about 2 hours I tried pinging the dns name gs.apple.com again and it resolved to a different IP, 17.151.36.30. I edited my hosts file and used that IP instead, and finally I was able to get my ipad 2 updating to ios 5.

I hope this helps you all in updating.

    • iphase

  • iPhillyFed

    Hey Jon Garrett,
Since you switched to android…(and we all know why you did, you’re like the little kid who wants attention but no one is giving it to you)…why don’t you just piss off and stay on the droid blogs…you have nothing constructive to say and I grow tired of your childish and jealous rants on this one. For someone who doesn’t like Apple and went over to suck on droid “D&&ks”. Stay off this blog and let people who need help get it … you troll this blog like a jealous juvenile stalker who wants the pretty girls but can have her because your heinous. Dude, go away, you went to droid and no one wants you here!!

  • Tunasty

  • Chris Williams

When i Try & Update my Jailbroken Phone all I get is This Device isn’t eligible for the request build. What does that mean exactly?

  • MIKE

The iPhone “xxxxxxxxx” could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish.

    WTF????

  • Chris Williams

I fixed it..Seems it’s something to Do with the Host File that wasn’t allowing me to update.

    • Hendo27

      What was it?

  • Andika

Hey, I got 3194 error when I’m trying to restore using a downloaded iOS 5 IPSW file but I managed to overcome it. What worked for me is change the IP address of Apple server in your host file to 17.151.36.30. Make sure your iTunes pointing to that IP address by pinging ‘gs.apple.com’ first. After that, everything is smooth! If you need some help, ask me through @putraditama

    • Hendo27

Can you show us exactly what you put in the host file?

  • john

no matter WHAT i do, i get the “this device is not eligble for the requested build” message. I’ve tried multiple computers. I’ve edited the host file. I have an iPhone 4 on 4.3.5 jailbroken with redsn0w. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP IM GOING CRAZY!

    • Hendo27

Can you show us exactly what you put in the host file???????

  • Maia

I’ll just till tomorrow and try some more then. SOOO FRUSTRATING!!!

  • john

YES! finally figured it out! i ran the newest version of redsn0w and pressed boot into pwned dfu and restored it to my downloaded ios 5 ipsw!

  • Martin

Guys, make sure you are not using USB hubs while updating. Just connect your iDevice straight to computer.

  • Andika

This is my host file looks like (I’m using Windows 7)

I have resolved this problems with a help of a friend.

When you’re finished downloading the .ipsw file, copy or cut it then TRANSFER/PASTE it to the folder (C:)/Users/Username/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/iTunes. Look for the name of your ipod, iphone, ipad with the one with the folder name of Software Update…

Open iTunes 10.5 then click the update button. Then your all good. Hope this helps!

    • Rob

Again, paste the .ipsw file inside your “iPad Software Update” folder for the update to work..

    • Rob

Additional information, please leave 5gb of space on your computer just to be sure….

      Enjoy! ^_^

  • rob

Just curious, is everyone that is getting these errors trying to update a jailbroken device? Not sure why anyone has ANY entry for Apple’s servers in their host file. Seems to me that you should just be letting DNS do it’s job, but maybe I’m missing something…

  • Miss Kels

Hey I kept getting the error message 3194 and I turned off my wifi as someone in this forum suggested and restored my phone and it worked. Hopefully this helps

  • David Harding
