How to Know if You Can Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone

By , Oct 14, 2010

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.0.2 and baseband 01.59.00. Can I jailbreak? Can I unlock? I get asked this question about 20 times a day and to be honest with you, it’s kinda getting old.

The good news is there is a tool available that will answer these specific questions. Just enter your device, model, iOS, and baseband version and it will tell you if you can jailbreak and unlock. Additionally, it will give you links to tools you can use to jailbreak and unlock…

The name of the site is not that original but it’s very helpful: http://www.jailbreak-me.info/. Pretty neat, isn’t it?

Just a question!! I Saved my 4.01 1.59.00 baseband with tinyumbrella two months ago. I unlocked and jailbreaked my iphone 4. Now mistakenly I upgraded from 4.01 to 4.1 and so was my baseband from 1.59 to 2.10 I believe. Will I be able to restore my old baseband somehow as I lost my unlocked feature??

      • Z

@Stephanie once the baseband has been updated, there is no going back. If you need an unlock, hope for a soon solution

sh*t people cannot read or something?? Stop asking questions when you can find the answer via google

  • Ron

Yea after a while it gets me mad, people ask me everyday and I told yes or no depend on what they running and they still keep asking

  • Ron

I agree to monkey with monkey, google is the answer to everything

  • manny

This might be a noob type question, but if I have 4.0.2 should I jailbreak 4.0.2 or upgrade to 4.1 and jailbreak?

  • jyusa

fact is that much, much more than this tool can answer you. Do not, repeat: do not follow it!

  • Applefansarefaggots

@Manny, at the top of this page there is a tab called Jailbreak. Click on that and look at iOS 4.1 section, do you see your device on that list. If you do, click on it then proceed with the direction. If you dont then scroll down to find iOS 4.02 and look if you find your device in that section. Then proceed.

Please HELP!!!!!!!! I cannot use my iphone anymore as I am overseas and I need to unloack it again!!!

    • SillyBear

There’s no way to downgraded your baseband even if you saved your 4.0.1 SHSH.
New unlock is being worked on.

Is it reliable? It says I could JB andunlock my iPhone 3g. Wonder if its true?

  • Ed

ummmm… this site just told me that I can jailbreak and unlock my Iphone 3G 05.13.04 iOS 4.1 (using redsn0w 0.9.6 for the jailbreak and Ultrasnow for the unlock)!!! According to everything I’ve read so far only a jailbreak has come out for this iphone and not an unlock. Am I wrong?
