Twitter for iOS updated with new search filters and more

Twitter has updated its official iOS client this evening, bringing the app to version 5.13. The update includes improvements for Search and Discover tabs, making it easier to find the content you're looking for.

Among these improvements are new search filters, which will allow you to quickly navigate to specific people and tweets, and toggle between relevant tweets and 'top tweets.' Full release notes are after the fold...

Apple updates Find My Friends for iOS 7

Apple has finally posted the iOS 7 update for its Find My Friends application this afternoon. The app, which allows iOS users to locate friends and family members, was the last notable mobile Apple title utilizing the old skeuomorphic design language.

In today's update, the app's leather stitching and paper-like textures have been replaced with open spaces and sharp text—the usual changes we've seen in iOS 7-flavored updates. And the UI now lines up with Apple's other iPhone and iPad offerings...

Yahoo Mail updated with message swiping

Yahoo Mail has been making some serious moves lately with a major redesign across the web and mobile apps. On the iOS side, the iPhone and iPad Yahoo Mail app recently saw a major revamp and feature additions, including folder management, multiple account support, native iPad interface and more.

I've been increasingly liking the 16-year-old web-based email service, especially now that every account comes with one terabyte of free storage. The app has been updated yesterday to version 2.0.3 with quite useful message swiping functionality and a few other tweaks...

Vimeo gets AirDrop sharing, new Incoming feed and more

Vimeo, the popular YouTube alternative founded by Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein in November 2004, has an excellent iPhone and iPad app which a year ago received a major makeover and has been the choice of many videographers who demand higher quality with less restrictions than Google's video sharing service.

The company today pushed another interesting feature update finally bringing AirDrop video sharing between compatible devices, plus a new Incoming feed. As you could imagine, there are usual bug fixes and performance improvements in this update and a useful option where you can choose to have Vimeo use Wi-Fi or cellular connection when syncing videos...

Nest app overhauled top to bottom, now with full support for Protector smoke detector

Nest, a startup run by the iPod Godfather and brilliant engineer Tony Fadell, made a name for itself with a sleek, intelligent thermostat (check out Jeff's hands-on) and the beautiful smoke and carbon monoxide detector dubbed Nest Protect. Today, the company has announced a big update coming soon to its companion application for the iPhone and iPad to allow for easier and, well, eye-candy management and robust remote control of your app-enabled Nest devices.

For starters, the app's been redesigned from the ground up and now supports both landscape and portrait orientation and includes gorgeous animated weather and more detailed Where location settings for Nest devices.

The headline new feature is support for both the Nest Thermostat and the upcoming Nest Protect smoke-detector, making it a one-stop solution for Nest device management, from the palm of your hand...

United Airlines app updated with new iOS 7 design, new features

United Airlines has posted an update for its iOS app this morning, bringing it to version 2.0.1. Well it's calling it an update, but it's been completely rebuilt with an iOS 7-friendly design and several new features.

Included in the new design are what United is calling 'travel cards,' which look like Windows Phone Live Tiles that provide quick access to info like flight status, and more. We've got the release notes after the fold...

Google Chrome for iOS update adds synced autofill

Chrome users will be happy to hear that Google has announced that it's adding the autofill feature from its desktop and Android app to the iOS client today, making it much easier to fill out online forms.

And the feature will of course sync information with your Google account. So as long as you're logged in on your iOS device, you will be able to auto-complete forms that you've already filled out elsewhere...

Apple’s iBooks and iTunes U apps finally receive iOS 7 makeover

Apple by now has updated much of its own iPhone and iPad applications that area available on the App Store, with the two major holdouts: iBooks and iTunes U (also pending in the update queue: Find My Friends and Keynote Remote, a Keynote presentation software companion).

Now, Jony Ive's been feeling your pain so today Apple issued a pair of long-expected updates bringing iBooks and iTunes U in line with the general iOS look and feel.

The revamped iBooks "has been updated with a beautiful new design for iOS 7," says Apple. The refresh includes a completely revamped iBook Store.

BBM updated with compatibility for Wi-Fi-only iPad and iPod touch devices

Following numerous delays, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) finally arrived last month as a free download on iOS and Android as the Canadian smartphone maker's survival remains uncertain. The app saw five million downloads in the first eight hours of availability, emerged as the No. 1 on the iTunes download charts and brought a cool 20 million new users to the BBM platform within a week. BlackBerry tweeted today that the iPhone-only release would get updated later today to support Wi-Fi-only iPhone touch and iPad devices.

Gmail gets full screen view on iPad and more iOS 7 goodies

Boom, Google has just updated its Gmail app for the iPhone and iPad with additional iOS 7-specific user interface tweaks and a brand new iPad full-screen view for the message compose sheet and message list in portrait. You're also going to dig a slimmed down navigation bar in landscape which you can use to quickly switch between inboxes and accounts. Finally, Google says the updated software now includes "better scrolling" experience...

Real Racing 3 updated with new cars, new events and more

Hot on the heels of the major Ferrari update last month, the folks at EA have posted another new version of its popular Real Racing 3 game this week that brings about more new cars, new events and new features.

As for the cars, some new Ferraris have joined the family including the 458 Spider, the 599 GTO, and the prestigious Enzo. And as for the new events and features, there's now weekly time trials and race replays...

Good news for folks who use Day One this morning. The popular journal app has been updated with a new iOS 7 design and several new features, including support for Apple's new 64-bit A7 processor.

Additionally, the update, which brings the app to version 1.12, includes support for the new M7 coprocessor. And this allows the app to do things like count your steps and auto-track your daily activities...
