iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak Will Work on 5.0.1

Another quick update on the state of the iOS 5 untethered jailbreak: French hacker pod2g has confirmed that the iOS 5 untether will in fact work on iOS 5.0.1.

It was originally thought that 5.0.1 had patched the untethered jailbreak, and we recommended that jailbreakers stay on 5.0 if they wanted an untether in the near future. We’re pleased to report that potential jailbreakers on iOS 5.0.1 can breathe a sigh of relief.

Pod2g’s untether (we have a video demo) doesn’t rely on the code signing vulnerability that security guru Charlie Miller recently demonstrated. Miller’s vulnerability was one of the reasons that Apple released 5.0.1 (to patch the vulnerability), and it was believed that 5.0.1 wouldn’t see an untethered jailbreak because of that reason.

Pod2g says that bringing his jailbreak to 5.0.1 “should be quick.” He is currently testing the jailbreak on different kinds of iOS devices.

      He never said it wouldn’t, he said he couldn’t currently test it because he didn’t own an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S.

        Someone get this man an iPhone 4S, no wonder our jailbreak is taking so long, wish I had the money I’d throw one at him in an instant.

      Hes not just testing it on “other devices”. Hes actually working on it with the 4s. He sayed he wasnt sure if hes going to release the 4s/4/3gs simutainiously or the 4/3gs prior. We’ll find out (hopefully) within the next few days. So no stress- the 4s has the same vonerability in the software as every other phone with the ios.

    My money is on MuscleNerd an the Dev-Team to be the first ones to releas a Jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.

    PLEASE HELP.. My phone died, after boot tethered none of my jailbreak tweaks or apps work anymore.. And they don’t show up in settings, but are all still currently installed in cydia…anybody have any ideas?!?!!?! PLEASE HELP THANK YOU!

        No I’m on 5.1.. But I’ve been jailbroken for a while and my phone died while I was sleeping.. Tried to boot tethered but none of my jailbreak attachments are working!! I need HELP

      Are “MobileSubstrate” and “PreferenceLoader” installed? If not, tap manage, settings, hacker, done, then search and install them (warning: MobileSubstrate requires a reboot). You can change your settings back after they’re installed.

    I have iphone with 4.3.3 untethered with Tiny Umbrella 5.0.1 saved SHSH blobs… IF 5.1 is released by Apple before this jailbreak is out, can i still upgrade to 5.0.1 using my blobs? (the reason i ask is ive seen people say “UPGRADE NOW BEFORE 5.1 IS OUT!”)

      you can upgrade/downgrade to any firmware you like as long as you have your SHSH blobs backed up somewhere… just make sure you have 5.0.1 SHSH saved before Apple stops signing it (usually shortly after a new version is releasd).

    AWESOME!! I’m on 5.0.1 and while I’m enjoying the stock firmware I’m also happy that I’ll get to jaillbreak it as well. :D

    BTW tethered jailbreak is a nightmare >_>

      Why is it a nightmare? how often do you reboot your phone? I never do. I did, however, have issues with Springtomize 2 randomly rebooting but Flippo fixed that.

        hi, i have these problems with random rebooting. I just uninstalled springtomize2 to see if it helps.. but could you explain a little more about Flippo solving this?

      Yes , it is. But do it now before Apple put an Update out. Hoping so much that Dev team first put their jailbreak out when it works on iPhone 4S.
