The Dev Team has pushed a new update for their flagship jailbreak tool, RedSn0w. RedSn0w 0.9.9 beta 6 brings several bug fixes, both functional and cosmetic.

RedSn0w 0.9.9 beta 6 is a jailbreak for iOS 5, which now brings Windows compatibility to the mix. It also fixes the network crash that iPhone 3GS owners with 06.15.00 basebands might have encountered when using Location Services…

From the Dev Team blog:

“For iPhone3GS owners with the 06.15 baseband, this redsn0w eliminates the network crash you saw when using Location Services in iOS5 (in fact, you don’t even need to disable Location Services anymore during the initial setup). The cosmetic fix is to the visual countdown you see when going into DFU mode.

It’s okay to re-run this redsn0w over an existing device jailbroken at iOS5. Just choose “Jailbreak” again and de-select Cydia (in other words, all the checkboxes will be unchecked). If you are lucky enough to have an old-bootrom iPhone3GS, please pre-select the IPSW first (redsn0w can’t yet auto-detect the FW version of your old-bootrom 3GS if it’s already been jailbroken).”

For those asking, yes, RedSn0w 0.9.9 beta 6 is still a tethered jailbreak, except for iPhone 3GS old bootrom devices.

You can download RedSn0w from our download section, and see our RedSn0w jailbreak page for more details and tutorials on how to use this jailbreak tool.

When i jailbroke my iphone 4 on 5.0 i noticed that my ibooks app kept crashing.. is this a none problem? i couldnt even get into it to open a pdf..

    • Antish

There’s Adobe Reader to open PDF now!

    • Jason

same problem here. except I have a 3GS.

    • Austin

Jailbroken devices have been unable to access ibooks since 4.2.1, and there hasnt ben a fix since then either, hopefully with the release of 5.0 a fix will follow suit soon, as I prefer it to any other epub reader besides Stanza, which also broke with 5.0

      • fdxgncgfn

Actually, a fix was made only a few days later with a jailbreak package by comex(forgot what is was called) and a greenpois0n update

  • you dumbfucks, you’ve given the mac link at the windows link. Check before you post, guys.

  • Catas

    Can i just re-break my iPhone 3GS i jailbroke before with RedSn0w 0.9.9B3?

  • Daniel

have the same problem with ibooks

    • Z!G

the problem with iBooks is the jailbreak. not iOS 5.0. The iBooks problem started as soon as the Dev-Team started releasing beta jailbreaks for iOS 5. I here that MuscleNerd had fixed the problem with beta6 but I still cannot use iBooks. But you may have to to restore and re-jailbreak to get it to work, which I have not tried. Have restored too many times and just dont feel like dong it any time soon. atleast until some good tweaks that I paid for are updated to work in iOS 5, which is when I will decide to upgrade. Till then I am just going to stay on iOS 4.2.10.

  • jamesandyori

Will this work with xp or do i need windows 7?

  • ricky

if you want the link to beta 6 of redsn0w 0.9.9 it’s on redmond pie

  • Edgar

Is it ok if you dont preserve your baseband? please help

    • Alex

If you don’t preserve your baseband it’s okay.

However on a 3GS you can possibly loose the baseband compatible with an unlock, and for iPhone 4 you lose the possibility of having a baseband that can be unlocked with a gevey. My Reccomendation is to preserve it.

  • Hey guys, my bad for the links mix up. I have been fucking things up all morning. I guess today is not my day. But it’s fixed now. Sorry 🙁

    • Ken

Don’t feel too bad. You are cool.

  • Wait,,, Does they mean to say that, This is GPS fix for 3GS on 6.15.00 ON IOS5 + The Network Crashing Issue…… OK Network problem will be fixed but will this FIX GPS problem,,,?????????

Does anyone know if this jailbreak works with the white ipod touch 4g? Should be the same stuff as the black one right?

    • Z!G

Respectively yes, It should, if it is the same iPod touch and no new hardware is added. However I cannot confirm this, but it sounds highly unlikely that the JB would not work with the newer iPod Touchs; i.e. white/black

  • ron

i need help i am trying to jailbreah my iphone 4 ios5 ver 9a334.i cannot find ipsw firmware file.its asking me to point to it but i dont know where to download it .is it available.if so can someone send it to me please.

    • Ken

You should save ipsw file extension as *.ipsw* (without *) instead of *.rar*.
Hope this will help your problem. You can change extension by pressing *save as* instead of *save*.

      • ron

deo you know where to download it…..

    • Ken
download under iOS 5 firmware section

    • Z!G

You shouldn’t have to point it at ipsw file. just jailbreak. but if you feel this must be done then (if you are on windows) press the key with the windows logo on it while pressing the R key down. type in “%AppData%” without quotes and then “apple computer” then “iTunes” then iPhone Software Updates and ipsw will be located in there. copy it to your desktop. not move, just copy so you still have that ipsw file in the software updates folder or itunes will have you download it again, which takes forever. for mac directions I do not know. google is your new friend now that you are a jailbreaker. Hope this helps.

  • ron

    im using redsnow 0.9.9b6

  • MHC (SK)

Damn, can´t wait for untethered jailbreak.

    • me

^^^ I can’t either. I check about every hour just waiting to see the headline: “untethered jb finally here”

  • jamesandyori

Has anyone else experienced a xp vs 7 issue?

  • HasanM

That’s great news , but I just tried it and my iPhone got stuck on a black coded page in the middle of the process

    is there a fix ?
    plz help .

    • Z!G

I have never seen this, wait for the script to go away and try again. if it will not go away then try to restore in DFU mode and rejailbreak, as the the jailbreak files may be corrupted if you just try to run it over the phone again. Just what I would do. Hope this helps

  • szyn

Hey guys I was jailbreaking with sn0wbreeze and got the network crash issue. It’s ok if now I overjailbreak it with redsn0w now?

  • What should i do if ive already jailbroke with sn0wbreeze and unlocked with ultrasn0w on 3GS 6.15 bb to fix location services bug – Im only familiar with sn0wbreeze anyone got a step by step solution

    • Alex

      Try redsn0w?

Maybe the one in this article?

  • virus*cell

i have the issue that i can’t use edge or 3g :S after ios 5 update

  • Zaytuun

Blank cydia icon that doesn’t open after jailbreak. Weird. Redoing it.

    • Svenni

I have the same problem, tried it a few times now, restored my phone back to factory a few times & tried a few different ways & still fails :s

    • Pixelements

      Same here. Any solution?

    • Z!G

Did you Boot Tethered after the jailbreak? You have to boot tethered after you jailbreak for the first time and every time you device shuts off it will need to be booted tethered.

  • Svenni

I can’t get Cydia to work, it just won’t open, it flashes quickly but just goes back to home. iPhone 4 32gb running ios5. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix it? I have tried redsn0w_win_0.9.9b4 & redsn0w_win_0.9.9b6, It also does the same thing with sn0wbreeze 2.8b8

    • maxx

Did you use the “just boot” option in redn0w to boot your device? Had the same problem til I booted my device with redsn0w

      • Svenni

I unplugged my phone from my computer, turned it off & back on. It boots up without having to use redsn0w :s It’s like I have an untethered Jailbreak but Cydia still won’t boot up grrr HELP 🙁

      • Svenni

OK it works 🙂 I didn’t know I had to go into redsn0w click on the “Just Boot” and follow the instructions. I thought if I turn my phone off it would come up with the plug into iTunes logo like it used to with tethered jailbreaks. ALL GOOD cheers 🙂

  • Solid Snake

How do I tell if my 3GS is an old bootrom?

    • virus*cell

@Solid Snake there are a llot of ways like going into dfu mode and then going(windows 7) into device manager and check for the bootroom or u just download idetector and go into dfu mode and it’ll tell you what bootroom it is

  • virus*cell

@Svenni you say it works without redsn0w you gotta have iphone 3gs old bootroom

    • Svenni

yea that’s what had me going for a bit, it had the signs of being jailbroken like having cydia installed but Cydia would crash every time I attempted to open it. That is until I rebooted it with Redsn0w, That’s when Cydia starts working 🙂

I don’t seem to be able to get activator or Remove background working, Guess I have to wait for a ios5 compatible version?

  • Satya Kumar

    Hi Friends,

Can I respring on tethered jailbreak without using Redsn0w DFU mode? Please advise….

    • Z!G

Yes. Respringing is always available to perform with tethered JB as it does not shut your phone off. It only restarts the springboard.
