Spirit Jailbreak Release Delayed

I don’t know if it’s just a bad joke but Comex, the developer behing the userland jailbreak Spirit, just said on Twitter that he was delaying the release of this new jailbreak.

This decision came after Comex read a year old article about how quick Apple was at patching a security hole in firmware 3.0.

If true, this piece of news is a a huge let down. Everyone was really waiting for Spirit to be released. I fail to understand the logic behind this decision. Whatever date the jailbreak will be released, there will always be the risk of Apple patching the firmware at some point.

Cross your fingers! Maybe Comex is just playing with our nerves… How do you feel about that?

    You know what? (sigh) this is getting a bit ridiculous. After months of waiting, now the jailbreak, not only me, but damn near millions of pol been waiting for is delayed yet again. First geohot, then thunderst0rm(faaaakkkkee), and now spirit said to be released in a matter of 24 hrs? Screw this I’m selling this damn iPhone not worth the frustration

    I just wanted this on Friday before i’m going on holiday Saturday so i’m Untethered and I’m going to claim a release if this keeps going on. on 7th May, this HAS to be released

    I know. Days after days, months, after months of waiting and “Oh no, they’re going to patch it on next firmware update!!!”

    Forgive me if I’m wrong but If I understand right, the exploit this is based on should also work with version 4 of the iphone software. If this is the case, I can understand why it should be delayed.

    I had a jailbroken Iphone stolen last week (still jailbroken because I didnt update the FW! – golden rule is dont update til you know its safe) and decided I will wait to replace and buy the new Iphone once released.

    I sympathise for those with an iPad or those who brought a newer 3GS etc but with the new iPhone and new software likely to be released in June / July it would be a waste to have this exploit fixed by apple before then.

    Then if they all wanna wait til 4.0, then y put info on the web or even talk about it? I mean man come on apple been patching all their exploits. For instance iPhone firmware 3.1.3…….Nuffield said. So what apple patches and u super smart guys come up with a solution. I mean that’s y y’all came to the surface of the net right? To share ur work with the world and get publicity???

    This is the reason I don’t get my hopes up! I knew that crap like this was gonna happen! Is almost like they like the attention they receive by having everyone talk about when they’re going to release it and stuff.

    Whats sooooooo stupid about all this is 4.0 isn’t the last firmware apple is going to make. There will be 4.0.1 and 4.1 etc, meaning they’re always a few months (if that) from new firmware and we all ways risk the chance they could ‘patch it’ so WTF DEVS.

    I posted a similar coment on MMI and got bashed for it but all this d@mn procrastination is pure BS.

    I agree its so so frustrating just release it if your going to otherwise keep quite about it stop teasing us. If apple can patch it tomorrow surely than can patch it next week and can they patch it if i don’t upgrade the firmware.

    People… SERIOUSLY, are you all stupid? There are ONLY so many bugs in any piece of code. It is stupid to *waste* a bug on 3.1.3 when 4.0 is coming out. Yes, 4.0.1 will come out weeks after the patch, but ANY phone on 4.0 will then be jailbroken!

    If he wastes this bug now, he won’t have it for 4.0. Who knows, maybe this will be the last bug ever? I highly doubt it, but don’t be stupid. The ENTIRE reason apple released 3.1.3 was in the hopes that someone would find a new bug and RELEASE that bug so they could patch it for 4.0.

    Anyone hoping for a 3.1.3 jailbreak/unlock is working in the against the common good of the iPhone jailbreaking community. Save it for (at least) 4.0, maybe even 4.0.1 which will be release 2 weeks after it due to real glitches with non-jailbroken phones.

    Come on guys. None of your complaining helps. My jailbreak broke 2 months ago when I had to restore and iTunes wouldn’t let my phone finish the jailbreak install, so I’ve been back on the standard 3.1.3 since. If I can get over it, so can you. I’m sure the developers all have their reasons for delaying, etc, even if it frustrates us. If you can’t develop a jailbreak by yourself, then don’t complain about the generosity of those who can develope a jailbreak just because the timeline doesn’t work out with your plans.

    Yea Nandu is right, but I think comex is waiting for apple to release iPad 3G which is on May 7th. So if he releases Spirit before that, all the new iPads with come with OSs patched for Spirit! so I think is for common good of all iDevice users

    comex says the jailbreak is delayed by a few days only. We have all waited so long, a few days is not going to kill anyone.

    There are a lot of people bitching about the lack of, delay to the JB but whats the point – it’s not going to speed things up rather the oposite. The guy says it needs more work, i’m sure everyone will appreciate a polished end product, i know I would prefer something that works bug free.

    Imagine buying an ipad 3g on Sunday just to find out it can’t be jailbroken because there’s already an update for it.

    But logically, the customer can bypass the upgrade.

    Are you feeling ok? I don’t think you are getting enough oxygen with your nose buried so far up Jailbreaker’s Ass?

    Nobody said we don’t appreciate what they do. We all do. Just because we can’t jailbreak the code ourselves, doesn’t mean we like to be d#ck’d around. Stop with the promises, put up a simple message (ex. “I want to wait till OS 4.0 comes out” or “my product is not ready, I need a couple weeks to get it polished” or “stop bugging me, I have finals, I’ll finish it afterwards”). Done, no one will be upset. But constantly giving us various dates and not delivering, plays with people’s nerves.

    If my friend kept calling me and telling me I’m going to give you free chair tomorrow, then told me next week for sure, then told me he doesn’t even have a chair or that he is afraid the chair will be stolen on the way to my house, I would tell him to go F himself. And that’s a free chair!!!

    I agree with Rick, they dint charge for the work they do and the amount of ppl bitchin and whinin over a jailbreak makes you all seem ungrateful, you all act like these hard working ppl who do the jailbreak software owe you folks something, stop it, they owe you nothing. In my opinion I think they should charge for it and not just put it out there and hope for someone to donate some money……gold the jailbreak off for as long as you want, I have am iPhone and it makes calls just fine and I get my txt messages just fine as well, I say to all those working on the jailbreak, thank you, thank you for putting in all your time and effort to this for oh so many ungrateful me me me ppl, keep up the great work and release when ever ya want, I shall wait till when ever for the jailbreak, thanks again.

    I spoke w/ comex. It will only be a day or two max. He wants to give the ipad 3g users a day or so to activate on the off chance that apple patches really fast.

    Hi i have iphone because it can be jb(tethered) since jan. I think people have learn not to update fw. before it’s ok now. So just release it Comex, and for the 4.0 coming i think if there is a jb ready apple wille sell alot but if they patch it they will not, how many of us have an iphone if it coud not be jb??(you think of that apple) 4.0 fw have a lot of new thinks so there will be more exploits to find and thats what you jailbreakers like to do right?

    This post and many of its comments are extremely disappointing.

    First, what’s with the people claiming they’ve been waiting months for this particular jailbreak? It was only first mentioned 1 month ago, and when it was, it was made clear that there was lots of work left to do for the jailbroken apps themselves.

    Second, is waiting an extra day or two past the iPad 3G release so difficult? Really?

    Third, comex did not ever mention a release date until Thursday morning in a twitter response to someone. He quickly withdrew that response when it was clear that there were some mechanics of the launch (and the program itself) that probably wouldn’t be ready in time for Friday. And in the meantime, the extra few days to clear those issues up gives people a chance to actually buy an iPad 3G and backup their SHSH blobs. People get a cleaner jailbreak with fewer issues, and people get a chance to backup their blobs. Win-win.

    The response I’ve seen is extremely disheartening. LOL and I here I actually thought people would be upset that they won’t be able to buy their iPad 3G overseas before Apple stopped signing 3.2, if comex released before May 7.

    I am a prior tethered JB 3GS owner that was subjected to a warranty replacement that came with 3.1.3. I mostly used my JB for a little customization and fo utilities. Either way, I liked the feeling of being able to customize MY phone.

    Well, these JB cats are good at what they do and deserve good donations… How much would you pay Apple for them to allow you to JB your device? Whatever that figure is, you should donate that to Comex, Geo etc. They put a lot of work into this stuff.

    You also have to remember that they do have their own lives and s@&t happens. I’m just glad to see that they bang out Apple on a repeated basis.

    Just as Saurik said, Apple is no longer a computer company, they are a movement.

    Someone is about to put a red hot poker up Apples a$$ and I want to see Comex’s name on the handle.

    iPhone unlock isn’t going to be out for a looooong time. Spirit only jailbreaks it.

    The reason for the delay is to create a buffer of time for users to get their stuff backed up properly and the next firmware update.

    Comex is just considering new users, so they don’t get screwed over when Apple instantly patches the bug if Spirit was released tomorrow.

    This Spirit Jailbreak will def be the last one before OS 4.0 final. Noone is working on an unlock for 3.1.3 You will not see one till the iphone 4g. All major groups have said the same thing.

    Those who work on jailbreaks and unlocks do it because it’s fun and challenging. It also, coincidentally, helps the end user who wants total control over their device.

    Nowadays, that end user is like elias. A self-entitled teenage pirate.

    It’s getting to the point where the end user is actually deterring the jailbreak and unlock releases. Amazing.

    It’s real basic, offer a jailbreak and charge. I think the mature people here respect the jailbreakers. There is always going to be a patch, and that’s what some peoples thought process is about. What’s the difference if they patch 3.0, 3.1.2, 4.0. It’s gonna be fixed no matter when the jailbreak comes out. I would pay for a jailbreak. I have donated over the years to different people, but not to geo because I can’t use his product, same with comex. Thank you guys for everything, you make iPhones 100% more enjoyable, but it is stressful being on the other side. The shame of this all is that Apple is the REAL one that’s screwing everyone. Shame on Apple…..

    If you waited months for a jailbreak, what’s wrong with waiting a few more days? Just relax go do something with your lives for a few days. What would you do if come decided not to release at all now? He’s doing it for free, you guys act like you’re paying him for his services. He does have a life you know! Relax guys.
