macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 beta references 3 unreleased Macs

Apple recently seeded a new beta of macOS 11 Big Sur to developers, and the software includes some hints at the future not directly related to the new software.

As noted today first by @HarckerTech (via 9to5Mac) is reporting that the first developer beta of macOS Big Sur 11.0.1, which Apple seeded this week, includes references to three unreleased Mac computers. The publication notes that within the “/System/Library” folder, there are references to a variety of different Mac computers, such as the 16-inch MacBook Pro and the 2020 27-inch iMac, among others.

Now, in the first beta, that same folder has revealed a trio of unreleased Mac computers. Specifically, this beta includes two references that are new to the desktop software entirely, while the third reference is actually present in the 10th developer beta of macOS 11 Big Sur (which Apple seeded earlier this month), but it went unnoticed until now.

These new files are:

  • MacHardwareTypes-2020f.bundle
  • MacHardwareTypes-2020g.bundle
  • MacHardwareTypes-2020h.bundle

Unfortunately, while Apple is prepping the next major update to macOS to support new hardware, we don’t know the details just yet. The files don’t tell us anything about the unreleased products, including the size of the machine, the type of computer (desktop or laptop), or when the new devices will launch.

Of course, there’s something to be excited about, though. At least for those who plan on jumping on board Apple Silicon Macs as soon as they launch. We know Apple plans on launching its first ARM-based Mac computer before the end of the year. Rumor has it the company will host an event sometime before the end of November, just in time to launch the product this holiday season.

As far as what to expect? Well, the rumor mill has suggested Apple could bring back the 12-inch MacBook to welcome Apple Silicon Macs to the market. Others, though, believe the safer bet is a new 16-inch MacBook Pro (or MacBook Pro model in general) to usher in Apple’s transition.

What are you hoping will be the first Apple Silicon Mac? And do you plan on upgrading your machine right away?
