How to Jailbreak iPhone 4.3.3 with PwnageTool [Tutorial]

Three updates, and three jailbreaks using the same exploit; that's got to be some sort of record.

For those of you interested in preserving your baseband with this latest jailbreak, you're obviously going to want to stay away from RedSn0w.

PwnageTool is the jailbreak tool to use when you're interested in creating custom firmware, and most importantly, when you need to preserve an unlockable baseband. Even if your baseband isn't unlockable, you may want to preserve your baseband in case a future unlock is found.

The good news is, the choice is yours. Without further explaining, here is the tutorial that will show you how to jailbreak your iPhone running iOS 4.3.3 and preserve your baseband with PwnageTool...

How to Unlock your iPhone 4.3.3 with UltraSn0w

Thanks to the hard work of the iPhone Dev Team, the UltraSn0w unlock for iPhone has been updated to play well with iOS 4.3.3. As mentioned in our previous post about UltraSn0w, this will only work with iPhone 4 baseband 1.59.00, and iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 4.26.08, 5.11.07, 5.12.01, 5.13.04, and 6.15.00.

If your baseband is different from these, then you can't unlock for the time being. If your baseband matches one of those above but you are on an older firmware, use PwnageTool to update while preserving the baseband.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to unlock your iPhone 4.3.3 using UltraSn0w...

PwnageTool Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 Released

With the release of an updated iOS 4.3.3 untethered jailbreak, the Dev Team has also released an update to PwnageTool for Mac OSX users.

PwnageTool 4.3.3 incorporates i0n1c’s updated iOS 4.3.3 untethered exploit. PwnageTool 4.3.3 will allow you to safely restore to an already jailbroken iOS 4.3.3 firmware and preserve your current 1.59.00 baseband so that you may use UltraSn0w to unlock your iPhone…

RedSn0w Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 Released

It has been less than three days since iOS 4.3.3 was released by Apple and the iPhone Dev Team has already released an untethered jailbreak for the latest iOS firmware.

As we stated earlier this week, for some odd reason Apple still has not patched hacker i0n1c's untethered exploit in iOS 4.3.3. Redsn0w 0.9.6rc15 provides an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.3 for the iPhone 4 (GSM), iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, iPad 1, and Apple TV 2G. This jailbreak does not support iPad 2 users.

RedSn0w Can Jailbreak iOS 4.3.3

A little after Apple released iOS 4.3.3 earlier today, we got the confirmation that the company hadn't patched i0n1c's untethered jailbreak exploit. That's good news for jailbreakers who will most likely get updated jailbreak tools from the Dev Team shortly.

In the meanwhile, if you can't wait for an officially updated jailbreak, you can still run the latest version of RedSn0w over your iPhone 4.3.3. It will be a tethered jailbreak but that will get you going until RedSn0w, PwnageTool, or Sn0wBreeze get an update...

Untethered Jailbreak Not Fixed in iOS 4.3.3

Some good news for jailbreakers coming from comex himself. Apparently, Apple hasn't fixed the exploit used by iPhone hacker i0n1c in his 4.3.2 jailbreak. What does that mean? Well it means that you might not be able to jailbreak and untether iOS 4.3.3 right now, but it's just a matter of time.

The Dev Team will most likely update PwnageTool and RedSn0w in the very near future, and provide us with stable and reliable jailbreaks. You can probably also expect iH8Sn0w to update Sn0wBreeze...

iOS 4.3.3 is Out – What Now?

Apple just released iOS 4.3.3 and as usual when a new firmware is out, we try to make sure we warn you about the potential risks. Experienced iPhone users might want to skip this post, but if you're new to the iPhone and especially jailbreaking, read on.

If your iPhone is jailbroken/unlocked, the first thing to do is to make sure you do not update to iOS 4.3.3. Updating will supercede your jailbreak, rendering it useless. As always when Apple releases an update to the software, make sure you hold on until new jailbreak/unlock is available...

iOS 4.3.3 Just Went Live, Jailbreakers Stand Down

If you've been living in a cave the last few weeks, you may have missed all of the controversy involving Apple's iOS. A research team uncovered a hidden file deep within Apple's mobile operating system, that kept a record of users' travels. When they broke this information to the public, a lot of curious folks turned to Apple for answers.

The secret file was just a programming glitch, but the public has a tendency to be really concerned about their personal privacy. In the wake of the discovery, Apple decided to patch the bug in a new firmware update, which just went live a few minutes ago.

Original iPad owners who are jailbroken and iPad 2 owners that hope to jailbreak in the future should avoid upgrading to the new firmware. As with any new software update, Apple could have patched the exploit that the current jailbreak is using, and you could be stuck with stock iOS for a while.

Although a jailbreak for the iPad 2 has not been released yet, owners of Apple's latest tablet are encouraged to stay away from the new software as well.  There are members of the Chronic Dev team and others that currently have jailbroken iPad 2s, the exploit is just not ready for the masses. Updating your firmware could disqualify you from the possibility of a future jailbreak.

iOS 4.3.3 was specifically released to erase the file that was recording locations. While I don't think we'll see any surprises in this update, I would still recommend holding off until we have official word from the community that it's safe. We'll keep you updated.

Are you more worried about Apple's location bug or your jailbreak?

Apple Releases iOS 4.3.3 (4.2.8 for Verizon iPhone)

Well, that was a wee bit quicker than we expected, but Apple has released iOS 4.3.3 to the public.

Although the update was initially said to be released sometime in the next few weeks (it was about a week ago when they stated this), it looks like Apple has finished testing and has opted to release iOS 4.3.3 ahead of schedule.

Why the rush to release such an minor update? It's just a sneaking suspicion, but it might have something to do with the bad press that Apple's been receiving as of late due to a certain location tracking bug...

Apple Will Fix Location Bug in iOS 4.3.3, Coming in the Next Two Weeks

Apple will be pushing an update to iOS in the next couple weeks that reportedly addresses the location tracking "bug" that has stormed the media. The iPhone's location database retained too much tracking info, and Apple plans on fixing that issue in iOS 4.3.3.

A few minor bugs will be addressed, but iOS 4.3.3 looks like it will mainly focus on the iPhone's location database.

iOS 4.3.3 Coming in the Next Few Weeks?

It appears that iOS 4.3.3 could be dropping in the next few weeks. In Apple's recent response to the iPhone's location-tracking database, the company mentions that an update to iOS is coming, "sometime in the next few weeks."

Due to a bug in the iPhone's location database, Apple plans pushing an incremental update to iOS very soon. There's no word on an official release date, but we should be seeing iOS 4.3.3 before the end of next month.

Reminder: Save Your SHSH Blobs for iOS 4.3.2

Earlier today, Apple released an FAQ to address the controversial location debacle. Apple acknowledged that there was a bug within iOS. When Location Services was turned off, the iPhone continued to updated WiFi and cell tower data from Apple's crowd-sourced database.

To address this issue, Apple announced that it would be releasing a software update within the next few weeks, most likely iOS 4.3.3. In addition to rectifying the location-tracking issues on iOS devices, Apple might also patch @i0n1c's untethered iOS 4.3.x jailbreak exploit, leaving you with a tethered jailbreak.Â
