Rumor: iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max may offer a 2TB option
Apple could increase the maximum storage from the one-terabyte option that’s available on the Pro-branded models in this year’s iPhone 12 lineup to twice that amount on their iPhone 14 Pro counterparts, claims a sketchy rumor from Chinese site MyDrivers.

With ‌iPhone 14‌ next year, Apple is settings its eyes on making its Pro models even more “Pro” by offering a 2TB option, according to a sketchy rumor from Chinese site MyDrivers. The rumor, which should be viewed with a considerable amount of skepticism, claims that Apple will adopt QLC flash storage for next year’s ‌iPhone‌ and that thanks to the newer storage technology, it will increase capacity to 2TB.
A recent supply-chain report from DigiTimes detailed new storage technologies that Apple could adopt for its 20202 iPhones although it doesn’t specifically mention a 2TB option.
Are two terabytes overkill?
This author wouldn’t know how to fill up a whopping two terabytes of storage with something that’s actually useful or needed. And neither would you, we’re betting. But when you think of it, for some people it shouldn’t be too hard to spend twice the storage on next year’s Pro iPhones.
You’re probably thinking right now about the stuff that gets accumulated over time without you even noticing, such as those TV shows or multi-gigabyte movies you’ve downloaded for offline viewing but forgotten to delete afterward. The same could be said about your saved podcasts episodes or the music albums you’ve saved for offline viewing who knows when, as well as dozens of the downloaded apps and games you don’t even notice because you’re not using them. In that sense, you could indeed fill up 2TB of storage and complain about running out of space. On the other hand, remember that all that content is temporarily cached. Besides, iOS does a good job freeing up storage space by periodically deleting cached and temporary files.
What you really need storage for is your personal content, the photos you took, the videos you shot, personal files you keep on the device and the like.
How to fill up two terabytes of storage, on a phone
With the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models said to upgrade the rear camera array with a new 48-megapixel sensor and the ability to shoot video in 8K (four times the pixels vs. 4K!), it starts to make sense to boost the storage on those phones. Apple has positioned the Pro-branded iPhone models as the camera phones that put Hollywood in your pocket.
And no iPhone customer who fancies themselves a serious camera aficionado or an aspiring Hollywood editor ever wants to see that dreaded “storage full” message.
Whether or not a 2TB iPhone would make sense is up for the debate, but it’s quite certain there’s a market for it. Creators who buy these iPhone Pros don’t pay more money just for the bragging rights. They need better cameras and high-capacity storage options.
And if the rumored 2TB option does become a reality on next year’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, it will have only been because Apple has conducted market research and concluded there should be a market for it. Read: How to perform iPhone storage search
