This tweak unlocks listening mode switching for Beats Studio Buds via Control Center on firmware prior to iOS 14.6

Apple device users responded positively to AirPods Pro and their tight integration with the iOS and iPadOS mobile operating systems. More specifically, users appreciated being able to switch listening modes directly from Control Center, which includes Noise Cancellation mode, Normal mode, and Transparency mode.

These features were once exclusive to the AirPods Pro, but fast-forward to today, and those same features can be enjoyed on AirPods Max and even certain Beats headphones like the Beats Studio Buds. One caveat, however, is that users must be running iOS or iPadOS 14.6 or newer to enjoy this functionality with the Beats Studio Buds.

Most jailbreakers, apart from those using checkra1n, will be limited to iOS or iPadOS 14.3 at the time of this writing. That said, those jailbreakers are missing out on the ability to switch between the Beats Studio Buds’ listening modes via Control Center. This is a highly unfortunate software-based limitation, and iOS developer Henry Li has come to the rescue with a solution.

Meet BeatsStudioBudsControl, a new and free jailbreak tweak that unlocks the ability to switch the Beats Studio Buds’ listening mode via Control Center even if you’re using a firmware prior to iOS or iPadOS 14.6.

As depicted in the before and after screenshot examples above, the tweak simply adds the missing controls to an otherwise unsupported iPhone or iPad firmware. The tweak also adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure a few different options to their liking:

Things you can do here include:

  • Toggle BeatsStudioBudsControl on or off on demand
  • Choose a custom name for your Beats Studio Buds
  • Respring your device to save your changes

Given how BeatsStudioBudsControl unlocks this capability on older iPhone and iPad firmware, it’s evident that this was an intentional software barrier set by Apple to entice potential Beats Studio Buds users to upgrade their firmware and ditch jailbreaking. But thanks to Li’s new tweak, that will no longer be necessary. Tweaks like this are one of the many things that make jailbreaking great.

If you’re interested in trying BeatsStudioBudsControl, then you may download it for free from Henry Li’s personal repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 14 devices and is open source on the developer’s GitHub page.
