Apple TV+ shares official trailer for comedy series ‘Trying’ ahead of season 2 debut

Apple TV+ confirmed that it would be bringing back the comedy series Trying for a second season in March. And now, just two days before that happens, the company got around to sharing the official trailer.

The second season of the comedy series was set to debut on Friday, May 14. And Apple usually tries to give some headroom between a big premiere and the first trailer, but today’s trailer actually changes things up a bit. It’s all about the new footage, sure, but it also confirms that the new season won’t actually premiere until Friday, May 21. So, we’ll have to wait a bit longer.

Still, the official trailer is below. It measures in at just over two minutes, and we get plenty of jokes from the upcoming season.

The two leads are making their return, with Rafe Spall playing Jason and Esther Smith playing Nikki. The next season will pick up where the first left off, with the couple still navigating the adoption process. The pair has been approved by the adoption council and now must be matched with a child, which turns out not to be as straightforward a process as expected.

Apple added this with the new season’s announcement earlier this year:

It seems like children are being snapped up by other couples while somehow they’re being left behind. Helped by their eccentric social worker Penny (Imelda Staunton), they are determined to do everything they can. When Nikki meets a little girl called Princess at an adoption event, she knows instantly that this is the child for them. But there are obstacles to Nikki’s plan that may prove insurmountable.

Some familiar faces from the first season will make their return for the second, including Ophelia Lovibond (Elementary), Oliver Chris (Motherland), Robyn Cara (Life), Darren Boyd (Killing Eve), and Sian Brooke (Good Omens).

Jin O’Hanlon will be directing and executive producing the series, which was created and written by Andy Wolton. The show is produced by BBC Studios for Apple TV+.

Apple also already confirmed that there will be a third season of Trying, but we don’t know when that will land on Apple TV+ quite yet.
