Hinata gives jailbroken iPhones a Samsung Galaxy-inspired Lock Screen

Any jailbreakers with an interest in changing the way their iPhone’s Lock Screen looks may want to refresh their package manager’s sources.

A newly released and free jailbreak tweak dubbed Hinata by iOS developer Sugiuta replaces the iPhone’s familiar Lock Screen aesthetics with something that appears to be inspired by the Samsung Galaxy Lock Screen.

An example of the tweak at work is depicted in the screenshot example below:

Of notable mention, the Lock Screen’s time and date display appear to adopt a Samsung Galaxy-inspired font, while the addition of the weather condition icon helps you plan your day accordingly.

Once installed, Hinata adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where users can configure a number of options to their liking:

Here, you can:

  • Enable or disable Hinata on demand
  • Hide specific items from the Lock Screen
  • Enable and configure custom date and time sizing via a slider
  • Enter a custom text string to be used as the swipe to unlock text
  • Enter a custom date text format
  • Adjust the Y positioning of notifications via a slider

In the Hide Option preference pane, users get to hide or show the following Lock Screen elements:

  • Status Bar
  • Camera and Flashlight Quick Action buttons
  • Control Center grabber
  • Padlock glyph
  • Home Bar
  • Unlock text
  • Weather icon

Whether or not you like the new Lock Screen aesthetics comes down solely to personal preference. There are probably a lot of people out there who prefer the native iPhone Lock Screen over one that appears to be derived from the Samsung Galaxy lineup, and I can relate. However, I also think that options are good, and that’s one reason why the tweak excites me.

Those interested in giving the new Hinata tweak a try can download it for free from Sugiuta’s personal repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 14 devices.

If you aren’t already using Sugiuta’s personal repository, then you or can add it to your package manager of choice with the following URL:
