Visa rolls out support for Apple Pay in Japan

The financial services corporation Visa has announced that folks in Japan can now add their Visa debit or credit cards to the Wallet app for use with contactless payments via Apple Pay.

Visa cards now work with Apple Pay in Japan

Folks with Visa cards issued by the following companies now work with Apple Pay in Japan:

  • Aplus
  • Credit Saison
  • JACCS
  • Mitsui Sumitomo Bank Card
  • NTT DoCoMo
  • Rakuten
  • SMBC Finance Service

People in Japan still prefer cash over other types of payment, but that’s changing now.

How to view locations that accept Apple Pay on Apple Maps

As noted by MacRumors, the country wants to achieve 40 percent of all daily transactions via cashless methods within the next four years, by 2025.

Apple Pay launched in Japan, home to a population of about 127 million people, in October 2016. The Apple-branded mobile payment service made its US debut back in October of 2014.
