Apple releases iOS 14.5.1, iPadOS 14.5.1, and watchOS 7.4.1 with a fix for App Tracking Transparency bug; macOS 11.3.1 now available

Apple launched the latest major update to iOS 14 in late April. Now, the company is issuing another update, this one focused on one aspect of the latest software.

On Monday, Apple released iOS and iPadOS 14.5.1 to the public. As the version number suggests, the new software is a minor update. And, as noted by Apple in the software update’s release notes, it’s primarily meant to fix a bug associated with the App Tracking Transparency feature. Apple launched that feature alongside the public release of iOS 14.5 last month.

You can check out the release notes for the new software below.

To update to iOS and/or iPadOS 14.5.1, simply open the Settings app –> General –>Software Update and follow the onscreen instructions to upgrade. If you have Automatic Updates switched on, the device will handle downloading the software and installing to overnight while the phone charges.

Here’s the changelog:

This update fixes an issue with App Tracking Transparency where some users who previously disabled Allow Apps to Request to Track in Settings may not receive prompts from apps after re-enabling it. This update also provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.
