The bigger iPhone 12 Pro Max lenses

Based on alleged CAD drawings used by accessory makers and 3D-printed mockups, the EverythingApplePro channel on YouTube has shared a video of the upcoming iPhone 13 refresh. According to the video, the iPhone 13 Pro Max should sport a larger camera module out the back, increasing in height by 3.38mm and width by 4.77mm.

Also, the entire handset should be 0.25mm thicker.

One thing to note about the CAD drawings: it would appear that Apple’s LiDAR scanner won’t be expanding to the entire lineup as previously suspected because there’s no cutout for the component on CAD drawings for the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13.

MacRumors has more:

For the ‌iPhone 13‌ mini, the CAD shows a diagonal camera setup for the 5.4-inch form factor ‌iPhone‌. Specific measurements from the CAD say that the camera setup will protrude 0.99mm more than the iPhone 12 mini, and be 3.06mm longer in width and 0.14mm shorter in height. The overall ‌iPhone 13‌ mini body will be 0.26mm thicker.

As for the ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro, its camera module will likely be 3.41mm taller and 4.81mm wider versus the current iPhone 12 Pro. The whole thing should protrude 3.65mm versus the 2.79mm of the current ‌iPhone 12 Pro‌if the leaked CADs are anything to go by.

Why larger lenses on the iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Adding larger lenses to the iPhone 13 Pro Max will definitely boost the quality of your photos by permitting more light to reach the camera sensors.

Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that the iPhone 13 lineup will change the focal length from 1/2″ on the iPhone 12 series to 1/1.7″. Besides, sensor-shift stabilization is said to expand to the entire iPhone 13 lineup this year after the technology debuted on the iPhone 12 Pro Max last year.

The larger sensors alone with sensor-shift stabilization explain why the camera bump is getting even bigger. The fairy accurate Japanese-language blog Mac Otakara said that the camera bump no the iPhone 13 models will be redesigned—the whole module should have a sapphire glass covering fused with the body of the phone. This should modernize and streamline the look of the iPhone’s rear camera module.
