How to share Apple Music song lyrics as Instagram Stories

Apple Music allows you to share your favorite lyrics from a song on Apple Music as an Instagram story with just a few taps, and we walk you through the whole process.

What you need to share song lyrics

The feature was implemented in the Music app on the iPhone and iPod touch via the iOS 14.5 software. On the iPad, you need the iPadOS 14.5 update or later. Sharing lyrics from Apple Music on Instagram Stories is currently unsupported in the Mac version of the Music app.

A support document on Apple’s website says you need an Apple Music subscription to view lyrics.

How to share song lyrics from Apple Music lyrics on Instagram Stories

To share song lyrics from Apple Music as Instagram Stories, tap and hold a line in the Music app’s real-time lyrics to enter a special interface, then choose Instagram from the Share menu.

  • Open the Music app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Start playing a song from Apple Music.
  • At the bottom of the screen, tap the song that’s playing to expand the mini-player.
  • Touch the Lyrics button in the lower-left corner to display the lyrics.
  • Tap and hold any line to enter the special lyrics-sharing screen.
  • Select one or more lines of text from this screen, up to 150 characters.
  • Choose “Instagram” option from the Share menu.

After the Music app creates your story, you’ll be taken to the Instagram app to publish it.

You can also open the lyrics-sharing interface by choosing Share Lyrics from a song’s Share menu. Selecting multiple lines of text will create a taller card for your story on Instagram.

How to share songs from Apple Music as Instagram or Facebook Stories

As mentioned earlier, sharing song lyrics from Apple Music on Instagram Stories requires iOS 14.5 or iPadOS 14.5. Apple is currently testing both updates with its registered developers and will release them publicly later in the spring.
