We’re a week into April, but with June looming on the horizon, and Apple already confirming this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, the rumor mill is going to start ramping up on what we can expect to see in a couple months.
Today, for instance, the fine folks over at iPhoneSoft.fr have a report detailing quite a few different things coming down the pipe. One change might be a welcomed one for folks who use Control Center in iOS quite a bit. Meanwhile, another is one of the more oft-requested elements for Apple’s iPhones, and another for Macs.
Of course, this is where we say that none of this is official quite yet, even if it all sounds like a “no-brainer” move on Apple’s part at this point. So, get that salt shaker handy and let’s dig in.
Touch ID and Face ID
There have been rumors swirling around for quite some time that Apple is working on integrating Touch ID back into high-end iPhones. Not getting rid of Face ID, but rather supplementing that biometric security measure with the fingerprint option, too. And today’s report reinforces that belief.
According to a source speaking with the publication, Apple is indeed going to offer dual Touch ID and Face ID authentication options on a single iPhone for the first time. The report notes that Apple will offer under-display Touch ID, so don’t expect a Home button to make its big return with the iPhone 13 this year.
Face ID (finally) on Mac
This has been a long time coming, but according to the report we’ll finally see Apple adopt Face ID in its Mac lineup. The report states that Apple will integrate the feature in the upcoming 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models (which will use Apple’s M-series processor), and that the feature will also be present in the 2021 iMac refresh as well. Face ID for Mac will then find its way to the other Mac options down the road.
iPhone 13 and 1TB storage option
This is not the first time we’re hearing Apple will jump to a 1TB option for the iPhone 13. And now this report says Apple has approved the feature internally. As such, we should see the iPhone 13 lineup offered at 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB (or 1024GB).
iOS 15 and a new Control Center
While not technically new, if this report is to be believed, Apple will apparently adopt the macOS Big Sur’s Control Center for iOS’s new update. It will be more compact overall, but there should still be plenty of integrated options to quickly access key features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, playing media, and more.
So, quite a bit! And yet, even if all of these things are true (and we won’t know about the iPhone 13 changes until later this year), that’s just the tip of the iceberg. But we don’t have long to wait, as WWDC 21 starts on June 7.
