The critically-acclaimed animated Apple TV+ film ‘Wolfwalkers’ is returning to select theaters for a limited time

As is par for the course, many Oscar-nominated films are making a return to theaters across the United States for a limited run. One of Apple TV+‘s films is getting the same treatment.

Today, GKIDS has confirmed (via /Film) that Wolfwalkers is getting the re-release treatment as part of its Academy Awards nomination for Best Animated Feature. The film was developed by Cartoon Saloon, and directed by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart. The film originally saw a limited theatrical run in late 2020, but with many movie theaters closed down due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, many people didn’t get a chance to catch it.

With many theaters reopening, GKIDS has decided to release the film yet again. Unfortunately, choices for which theater to see the animated film are pretty scarce.

At the time of publication, only two theaters have been confirmed: The Landmark in Los Angeles, California; and the Landmark Embarcadero Center Cinema in San Francisco, California. However, GKIDS has confirmed that “additional markets” will be added to the list in the near future.

You can get tickets here.

If you can make it to one of those two theaters, Wolfwalkers will be available to watch starting Friday, April 9, 2021.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

In a time of superstition and magic, a young apprentice hunter, Robyn Goodfellowe, journeys to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh, a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to transform into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh’s missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the WOLFWALKERS and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.

Apple recently showcased a behind the scenes look at the making of Wolfwalkers, which you can check out in the video just below.

Along with the Academy Award nomination for this year’s Best Animated Feature, Wolfwalkers also picked up nominations from the EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) gave the film recognition, as did the Annie Awards. Wolfwalkers also picked up a nomination from this year’s Golden Globes as well.

If you haven’t seen the film yet, and you don’t think you’ll be able to make it to a theater showing it, you can still check it out on Apple TV+ right now.
