Apple Pay support rolling out in South Africa

The first signs of a future launch of Apple Pay support in South Africa popped up back in January. Now, more than two months later, the time has finally arrived.

As noted today by MacRumors, it looks like support for Apple Pay has now gone live in South Africa. There are only a select number of banking establishments that support the mobile payment option right out of the gate. The original report indicates that Discovery, Absa, and Nedbank are all offering support for Apple Pay.

It’s more than likely that additional banks will offer support for Apple’s mobile payment option in the future. However, there’s no word on when additional support will arrive at this time. Folks on social media, like Twitter, were happy to share that Apple Pay support had finally arrived:

For customers in South Africa that bank at the supported establishments, adding your card is easy enough. Just open the Wallet app on your iPhone, tap the “+” button in the top-right of the screen, and then follow the on-screen instructions to add your card(s).

At the time of publication, Apple’s website for Apple Pay in South Africa hasn’t been updated to show support. That will more than likely change soon enough.
