AltStore and AltServer updated to v1.4.4 with iOS 14-centric bug fixes

Jailbreak apps such as Chimera, Odyssey, and unc0ver can be installed a bevy of different ways. Perhaps one of the most popular methods involves a software utility combination for macOS and Windows-based computers known as AltStore and AltServer. The latter runs as a process on the computer, facilitating the installation of the former alongside side-loadable apps on an iPhone or iPad running iOS or iPadOS 12.2 or later.

Both AltStore and AltServer occasionally receive updates with improvements and/or new features for users, and just this evening, the software duo were updated to version 1.4.4.

Project lead developer Riley Testut announced the latest updates via the official AltStore Twitter account within the past hour, including important information about what’s new:

While AltStore version 1.4.4 was previously in beta and only available to a select few users, today’s update is a public release and can be installed by anyone and everyone.

Citing the release notes for AltStore and AltServer version 1.4.4, we can gather that the updates were intended to address the following things:

  • A fix for AltDaemon occasionally untrusting apps on jailbroken devices running iOS or iPadOS 14.0 or later
  • A fix for installing AltStore on handsets running iOS or PadOS 14.5
  • A fix for the dreaded “This device is already registered with this team” error

Installing the latest update is easy — merely click the AltStore icon in your Mac’s Menu Bar or Windows PC’s Task Bar and choose the Check for Updates option from the menu. A prompt should then walk you through the rest of the updating process.

You will need to update AltServer on your computer before you can install the latest version of AltStore on your iPhone or iPad, so remember to keep that in mind.

Given that the unc0ver jailbreak recently picked up support for iOS & iPadOS 14.0-14.3, and knowing that CoolStar’s upcoming jailbreak for iOS & iPadOS 14.0-14.3 is just around the corner, it’s a good time to get your AltStore and AltServer combo up to date on your personal computer to ensure the smoothest jailbreaking process going forward.

If you’re not already using AltStore, then you can download the latest version at your leisure from the official AltStore.io website. You can also take advantage of the following AltStore-based tutorials if you haven’t already:
