Xenon makes it easy to browse your jailbroken iPhone’s file system from your computer

One of the things you can do with a jailbroken iPhone or iPad is access the handset’s root file system. With that in mind, having an easy means of doing so can be an incredibly valuable capability, especially if you have any interest in changing or modifying system files with custom ones to change the device’s functionality or software-esque appearance.

While most people use on-device file managers such as Filza to tackle their file system browsing needs, Xenon is a newly released jailbreak tweak buy iOS developer Aspen that lets you access your handset’s file system from the comfort of your Mac or Windows PC — with the full luxury of the larger display that accompanies it.

So how does Xenon work? It basically sets up a file server between your iPhone or iPad and your computer on your Wi-Fi network. Obviously, this requires you to install a client on your computer, but once installed, you can scan a QR code on your computer’s display with your iPhone or iPad and this pairs your handset to your computer for future connectivity.

Once paired, you can enjoy the added benefit of being able to browse your handset’s file system from your computer’s native file browser, whether it’s Finder on macOS or Windows Explorer on Windows. Just like in Filza, you can view files in your handset’s file system, or you can modify or exchange them as you see fit.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Xenon adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where you can set the tweak up:

Here, you can:

  • Pair your iPhone or iPad with your computer for remote file system browsing
  • Copy or regenerate keys
  • Add or remove mounts
  • And more…

One thing we really appreciate about Xenon is that it doesn’t require a command line. The tweak’s seamless integration with your computer’s native file browser offers a familiar graphical user interface and makes it easier to transfer files from your device to your computer or vice-versa on the fly.

Xenon gets an easy A+ from us, and it’s available for $1.99 from the Chariz repository via your favorite package manager. The tweak supports jailbroken handsets running iOS or iPadOS 12.2 or later, up to and including iOS & iPadOS 14.
