Apple TV+ orders female-driven anthology series ‘Roar’ from Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch, and Nicole Kidman

Apple TV+ has secured itself yet another anthology series. This one’s a female-driven, star-studded endeavor, boasting a ridiculous amount of talent both in front and behind the cameras.

Announced today, Apple TV+ has confirmed it is bringing a new anthology series called Roar. It’s billed as a “darkly comic feminist fables”, all of which will star award-winning actresses. The series was created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, both of which created the hit Netflix series GLOW. The anthology series is based on the book of short stories written by Cecelia Ahern.

The show will consist of eight episode, each of which will be a half hour in length. Each will feature a unique female point-of-view throughout.

Both Flahive and Mensch have overall deals with Apple TV+, and this is the first effort from that.

The show will star Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide ShutBig Little Lies), Cynthia Erivo (WidowsThe Outsider), Merritt Wever (Unbelievable), and Alison Brie (GLOW), among others who have yet to be announced at this point. Meanwhile, Kidman will also be executive producing the upcoming series, along with Per Saari.

Per the announcement today, the finer details:

Emmy Award-winning producer Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Allie Goss will executive produce on behalf of Made Up Stories. Flahive and Mensch will create, showrun and serve as executive producers. Theresa Park will serve as executive producer for her Per Capita Productions and author Cecelia Ahern will executive produce through Greenlight Go. “Roar” will be produced for Apple by Endeavor Content.

This is yet another anthology series for Apple TV+. The streaming service has already launched similar ideas like Amazing Stories, and Little America.

No word on a release date just yet. But as soon as we learn more, we’ll pass it along.
