How to wrap text in the Numbers app to display all your data

Learn how to wrap text in a cell, group of cells, or the whole table of the Numbers app on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac so you can display all your data without missing anything.

If you use text in your Numbers sheets, there may have been a time when that text was hidden by the cell to the right. And while you can select the cell and read the text at the bottom in Numbers on Mac, this isn’t always convenient. Plus, this isn’t an option in Numbers on iPhone or iPad.

So, to address this, we’ll show you how to wrap the text in a cell in your spreadsheets. You can apply this formatting to a single cell, group of cells, column, and row. This will increase the height of the cell to display all text within it. But if you resize the column or row containing the cell, the text will adjust.

On Mac

  1. Open your workbook in Numbers, select the spreadsheet, and select the cell or group of cells.
  2. Open the right-hand sidebar by clicking the Format button on the top right.
  3. Choose the Text tab at the top of the sidebar.
  4. Check the box for Wrap text in cell.

If you want to apply the text wrap to a column, row, or entire table, follow the same steps. But you’ll notice the checkbox has changed to a minus sign. Just click the minus sign to convert it to a checkbox to apply the text wrapping.

  1. Open the spreadsheet in the Numbers app and select the cell, group of cells, column, row, or entire table.
  2. Tap the Format icon (paintbrush) at the top.
  3. Choose the Cell tab.
  4. Enable the toggle for Wrap Text in Cell.
