The Apple TV app is now available on Chromecast with Google TV

The Apple TV app is not one of the services Apple keeps within its walled garden. It has expanded to third-party company devices like smart TVs and video game consoles. And now the app has launched on yet another, Google’s latest Chromecast device.

Last year, Google launched the Chromecast with Google TV streaming device. In December it was confirmed that the Apple TV app would launch on the streaming stick in the near future, and now that time has arrived. And, as you’d expect, the app works just like it does everywhere else it’s available. That means you can access your purchased shows and films from iTunes, as well as watch content from available third-party networks like Showtime, CBS All Access, and others available in Apple TV Channels.

The UI stays the same, too. The familiar navigation bar is at the top, offering choices like “Watch Now”, “Movies”, “Kids, “Library”, and more. The content is available down below. There is also a search function. And the Apple TV app will integrate with Google TV, so users can use Google Assistant, and Apple’s original films and series from Apple TV+ will generate in suggestions and recommendations.

And with Google Assistant, you can also use your voice to ask Google to open the Apple TV app or play an Apple Original title. If you aren’t ready to watch right away, you can add Apple Originals to your Watchlist for later. These features will roll out globally in the coming months.
