Apple TV+ spy drama ‘Tehran’ renewed for a second season [Updated: Apple confirms the renewal]

It might not have happened as quickly as some other series renewals, but the wait is finally over. So to speak. Apple TV+ has renewed its spy drama, Tehran, for a second season.

UpdateApple itself has gone ahead and confirmed the second season renewal for the Israeli espionage thriller.

The original article continues below.

That’s according to a report from DeadlineTehran is Apple TV+’s first non-English language original series, which is why it’s a little shocking it took so long for a season renewal. But it’s finally here, so fans of the first season can expect to see a second season at some point in the near-ish future.

Apple worked with Israeli broadcaster Kan 11 for the first season of the spy drama. However, things will change for season two. The report indicates that starting from the second season it will be an Apple Original worldwide distribution. However, the second season will still air on Kan 11 in Israel, as well as on Apple TV+.

Here’s the official description of the show, at least as far as the first season is concerned:

A new espionage thriller from “Fauda” writer Moshe Zonder that tells the thrilling story of a Mossad agent who goes deep undercover on a dangerous mission in Tehran that places her and everyone around her in dire jeopardy.

And here’s the official trailer, which Apple shared back in September of last year:

Tehran‘s first season premiered on Apple TV+ on September 25, 2020. There’s no word at this time when the second season will premiere on the streaming service.

The series stars Niv Sultan, Navid Negahban, Shaun Toub, Shervin Alenabi, Menashe Noy, and Liraz Charhi. It was created by Moshe Zonder and Omri Shenhar. It’s possible the second season will shuffle the casting just a bit, and we’ll likely see new faces added to the roster, too.

As soon as we know more, we’ll pass it along.

Did you watch the first season of Tehran? If so, are you looking forward to the second season?
