The upcoming new Apple Watch face changes in real-time according to your movement

The next Apple Watch update is around the corner and with it comes a brand new Apple Watch face, inspired by the colors of the Pan-African flag, that changes dynamically as you move.

Unity on your wrist

Dubbed “Unity,” the new one joins the growing collection of stock faces that come preinstalled with each watchOS update. 9to5Mac, which first discovered “Unity,” notes that the new watch face offers some opportunities for customization with the following color combinations:

  • Black and grey
  • Red, black and green
  • Red, Black and yellow

And here is what it looks like.

Apple explains:

Red represents the blood that unites the people of the African diaspora and was shed for their liberation. Black is for the people whose lives are affirmed by the flag. And green is a symbol of the vibrant, natural wealth of Africa, the Motherland.

But there’s something really interesting about “Unity” that you may not notice at first.

A watch face that changes as you move

As the source article explains:

In addition to the color options, the ‘Unity’ watch face lets users add a date complication at the top and another complication at the bottom.

And it responds to your movement in real-time!

Apple didn’t detail how exactly the movement makes the watch face change, but I noticed the shapes and colors change subtly when I’m moving — and this all happens in real-time. When I walk or move my arms, I can see the watch face slowly changing.

The new watch face is part of the upcoming watchOS 7.3 software update that will release to the general public in a matter of days. Earlier today, Apple released the first so-called release candidate (RC) of watchOS 7.3, along with RC versions of iOS 14.4 and other OS updates. The move strongly indicates that watchOS 7.3 is now ready for prime time.
