iOS 15 once again rumored to drop support for the iPhone 6s and original iPhone SE

It’s officially 2021 and iOS 14 is going to be replaced by iOS 15 (probably). Ahead of Apple’s big unveil later this year, rumors are swirling about potential support for older devices. And, as usual, some won’t make the cut.

Today, the folks over at iPhoneSoft have a report detailing Apple’s plans for support when it comes to iOS 15. Specifically, which older devices won’t be getting the upcoming software update. According to the publication, which says it’s sourcing its information directly from Apple, the iPhone 6s, the original iPhone SE, and the iPhone 6s Plus won’t be supported.

That lines up with a previous report from back in November of 2020.

However, this new story tells us that Apple probably won’t support a few other devices: the iPad mini 4, the fifth-generation iPad, and the second-generation iPad Air.

Per the original report, here are the iPhones that will probably support iOS 15 when it launches:

  • iPhone 13 Mini
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 Mini
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE 2020
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 7

And here are the iPad models that will probably support the next major software update:

  • iPad mini 5
  • iPad 6
  • iPad 7
  • iPad 8
  • iPad Air 3
  • iPad Air 4
  • iPad Pro 2021 (5G)
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2015 & newer)
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (2018 & newer)
  • iPad Pro 10.5-inch

As you can see from the lists there, they’ve also included some devices that Apple hasn’t announced yet.

Still, this isn’t world-shaking news by any means. The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus launched in 2015, so they’re definitely long in the tooth at this point.
