Apple TV+ comedy series ‘Ted Lasso’ picks up a trio of Critics Choice Awards nominations

Ted Lasso started out as a crazy idea that some folks out there didn’t think would work out. Fortunately for Apple TV+ and the creative team behind the series, that did not turn out to be the case. The comedy series has become one of the bright spots for Apple’s streaming service, and now it has some awards nominations to show off.

As reported on Tuesday by Deadline, the comedy series from Apple TV+ has been nominated for three Critics Choice Awards. Those include best comedy series, best supporting actress in a comedy series, and best actor in a comedy series. However, while Ted Lasso is a fantastic series, it is up against some stiff competition.

Here are the nominations for best comedy series this year:

  • Better Things (FX)
  • The Flight Attendant (HBO Max)
  • Mom (CBS)
  • PEN15 (Hulu)
  • Ramy (Hulu)
  • Schitt’s Creek (Pop)
  • Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)
  • What We Do in the Shadows (FX)

And here are the nominations for the best actor in a comedy series:

  • Hank Azaria – Brockmire (IFC)
  • Matt Berry – What We Do in the Shadows (FX)
  • Nicholas Hoult – The Great (Hulu)
  • Eugene Levy – Schitt’s Creek (Pop)
  • Jason Sudeikis – Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)
  • Ramy Youssef – Ramy (Hulu)

These are the nominations for the best supporting actress in a comedy series:

  • Lecy Goranson – The Conners (ABC)
  • Rita Moreno – One Day at a Time (Pop)
  • Annie Murphy – Schitt’s Creek (Pop)
  • Ashley Park – Emily in Paris (Netflix)
  • Jaime Pressly – Mom (CBS)
  • Hannah Waddingham – Ted Lasso(Apple TV+)

In this writer’s opinion, both Waddingham and Lasso should absolutely win for their respective nominations. Those awards should be a shoe-in, because they did a phenomenal job in their roles. That isn’t to say the other nominations weren’t also great (they were!), but Ted Lasso really stands out in all the ways it should. And, for that reason, the show itself should win this year, too.

But, we’ll have to wait and see what happens as far as that goes. The winners will be announced on March 7, 2021.

Ted Lasso was renewed for a second season before the first season ended. And then it was renewed for a third season, too. The “bad news” is that we may see the end of the popular comedy series after three seasons, according to the show’s creator.

If you watched Ted Lasso, what did you think of the series? Think it will win?
