Chimera jailbreak updated to version 1.6.1 with Userspace reboot improvements

In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, the Chimera Team updated its iOS 12-centric jailbreak tool Saturday evening, officially bringing it up to version 1.6.1.

Chimera Team lead developer CoolStar first unveiled the release of Chimera v1.6.1 via the official Sileo / Odyssey / Chimera Discord channel.

The announcement can be read below:

Those wondering what today’s new Chimera update brings to the table would only need to check the change log to find that out:

Chimera v1.6.1

– Userspace reboot is now fully completed and reliable
– Userspace reboot is now enabled by default and runs during the jailbreak process instead of ldrestart
– Officially validated for iOS 12.5.1

From what we can gather, today’s Chimera update resolves some of the loose ends originally introduced by an update that was released at the end of last year. More specifically, it makes the Userspace reboot feature reliable enough to be used by anyone.

Furthermore, Chimera v1.6.1 officially validates that the tool works with Apple’s newly released iOS 12.5.1. We knew this already, but now the jailbreak tool actually reflects this tidbit of information.

As noted in CoolStar’s Discord message, this is very likely to be the final update for the Chimera jailbreak tool.

For those wondering, the Chimera jailbreak tool supports iOS 12.0-12.5.1 on A7-A11 devices and iOS 12.0-12.1.2 on A12 devices. This fact hasn’t changed since the initial release, and it probably never will.

The latest version of the Chimera jailbreak tool is now available to download at chimera.coolstar.org.
