“For All Mankind” season 2 trailer: Department of Defense moves into Mission Control

Apple today shared a new trailer for “For All Mankind,” which is one of the staples of premium Apple TV+ programming, ahead of its Season 2 premiere on the video platform next month.

In an alternate reality, landing on the moon didn’t end the space race.

Alt-history drama

Imagining the United States had lost the Space Race to the Soviet Union in the 1960s, “For All Mankind” is the alt-history drama featuring polished visuals, great acting and an immersive storyline. Watch the new trailer for Season 2, embedded ahead.

The militarization of NASA

From Apple’s description:

Season two of the space drama picks up a decade later in 1983. It’s the height of the Cold War and tensions between the United States and the USSR are at their peak. Ronald Reagan is President and the greater ambitions of science and space exploration are at threat of being squandered as the US and Soviets go head to head to control sites rich in resources on the moon.

The Department of Defense has moved into Mission Control, and the militarization of NASA becomes central to several characters’ stories: some fight it, some use it as an opportunity to advance their own interests, and some find themselves at the height of a conflict that may lead to nuclear war.

Season 2 is premiering on Friday, February 19, 2021.

Season 1 video recap

And here’s a nice featurette that Apple TV+ shared three days ago, serving as a recap of sorts of Season 1 for those who would like to catch up on Season 1 before Season 2 premieres. And while we’re waiting for the second season to premiere on Apple’s platform, that has hardly slowed things down on Apple’s end because the show has been renewed for a third season.

One of the staples of Apple TV+ programming

Written by Ronald D. Moore, among others, the show stars Joel Kinnaman, Wrenn Schmidt, Sarah Jones, Shantel VanSanten, Michael Dorman and Jodi Balfour. It was one of the four original shows that helped launch Apple TV+ hit the ground running.

I’ve included the official teaser trailer for the second season just below.

The first season started off pretty rough, just like the other launch series for Apple TV+. But by the time the first season wrapped up, the show was doing quite well. The second season should be able to continue that momentum whenever it debuts on Apple TV+ in the near future.

You can watch “For All Mankind” on Apple TV+.
