Belkin recalls the Portable Wireless Charger and Stand over fire hazard

Sometimes a recall is necessary, especially when people’s lives or safety might be at risk. Belkin finds itself in that situation right now, as it recalls one of its wireless charging options.

As noted today by The Verge, Belkin has voluntarily put forward a total recall of its Portable Wireless Charger + Stand Special Edition accessory over fire and shock hazard concerns. Belkin sold this wireless charging accessory on its online store, and Apple sold it in its physical retail locations and in its online storefront as well.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been no recorded injuries or deaths related to the issue. It also states that the malfunction leading to the issues should only impact wireless chargers manufactured between July 2020 and October 2020.

The issue appears to be with the power supply unit. As the device is plugged in, the PSU can cause the device to overheat. Once it reaches that state, it’s possible that the wireless charger can burn or shock the user. It’s also possible the device itself can catch on fire, too. The Portable Wireless Charger + Stand features a 10,000mAh battery, and it can charge up to 10W.

Belkin says that owners should immediately unplug the device and stop using it. The company will be issuing refunds for those who purchased the Portable Wireless Charger + Stand Special Edition.

If you purchased the wireless charger, you can submit a claim for a refund at Belkin’s website.
